Using photographs she has taken herself, she sews onto them, irreversibly altering the image by adding a new layer. She uses an ancient form of art, embroidery, refracted through a modern one, photography, to create structured objects that are embodiments of both fragmentation and focused concentration. The sewn patterns and intricate puzzles are colored textured drawings, which serve as webs and grids over the photographs, providing another dimension to the images. The act of sewing onto photographs builds a sense of connection to a particular human experience while creating layers of narrative, texture, and patterned geometry over a flat surface. The remodel of the restaurant and bar at Hotel Monteleone, in New Orleans historic French quarter, was a very exciting project I worked on last year with Lindsay Broad.
Hotel Monteleone is a Literary and Historic landmark. The hotel has been open since before the 1930's and has been written about in novels from authors like Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, and many more. Every inch of the hotel has a different story, a historic moment all of its own that you can just feel as you walk through the space. The carousel in the bar is existing and has been there for over 70 years. It is one of the most romantic and unique things to experience while visiting New Orleans. "Chuck Close " - Chuck Close. NEW YORK, October 5, 2012— Pace is honored to present an exhibition of recent paintings, prints, and tapestries by Chuck Close.
Close has been represented by Pace since 1977. The exhibition will be on view from October 19 through December 22, 2012 at 534 West 25th Street. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 18th from 6 to 8 p.m. A full-color illustrated catalogue with an introductory essay by Robert Storr will accompany the exhibition. It appears the word “impossible” is not in Ruben Belloso Adorna’s dictionary, as the young Spanish artist manages to create stunning photo-quality masterpieces using only pastels. Born in 1986, he studied Fine Arts at the University of Seville, and has already made a name for himself in the art world, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and winning several awards. Looking at the quality of his colorful drawings, and the way he is able to bring out the emotions of his subjects, it’s easy to see why many are already calling Ruben a genius of the 21st century.
