“Winner Take All” Three Party Model A special case of the three party model where the service provider wants to allow the requester to use an existing identity, but only accepts authentication from a defined set of providers. Participants sign an agreement with the identity provider, which also allows them to talk to one another.
What with FriendFeed selling out to Facebook, the less those of us who have been harping on about user autonomy, self-hosted or user-owned apps and technology look like online equivalent of survivalists. The prospect of a distributed, interoperable, self-hosted network of publishing, reading and discussion tools is nothing new – but the idea is gaining a lot more support as more people react to recent news like FriendFeed’s sale to Facebook, Tr.im’s up and down and Twitter’s denial of service attacks. The tide may not be turning, but there’s sure to be some new waves of innovation that come out of this period of frustration. Marshall Kirkpatrick of Read Write Web does a good job of explaining why blogging and a WordPress type platform won’t be enough to replace services like Twitter. Yes, it publishing & distribution vs communication and relationships. The Mine! Project The Mine! Project

Http://themineproject.org/Main Page - Banyan Project Http://themineproject.org/Main Page - Banyan Project Banyan Project’s purpose is to ensure that, despite failing newspapers, communities have the reliable news coverage and information they need. It is a robust response to an urgent need of our democracy. The multifaceted Banyan model is built on the sturdy foundation of consumer cooperative ownership, with readers owning local news co-ops the way shoppers own food co-ops and depositors own credit unions. The news co-ops are designed to be easily replicable from community to community, the way food co-ops and credit unions replicated from coast to coast. The co-ops will be businesses owned by hundreds if not thousands of community members. They will be led professionally and governed democratically through one-member/one-vote election of directors, as are co-ops of all kinds.
