At its Livery Banquet on 14 March the Company of Chartered Architects awarded OMA's new Rothschild Bank headquarters with the New City Architecture Award for 2011. The award recognises a building which, in the opinion of the judges, makes the most significant contribution to the streetscape and skyscape of the City of London.
The Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. It’s one of the triumphs of Renaissance painting. The chapel’s walls were frescoed by Raphael, Bernini, and Sandro Botticelli. And then, between 1508 and 1512, Michelangelo painted the chapel ceiling, covering some 12,000 square feet, decorating it with 300 figures from nine Book of Genesis scenes. Thanks in part to Villanova University, you can now take a virtual, panoramic tour of the Chapel . http://www.openculture.com/2010/03/a_virtual_tour_of_the_sistine_chapel.html

Not long ago in Africa, I camped in what seemed like one of the perfect places on Earth, at the edge of a stand of trees overlooking a floodplain.
