Originally, a landmark literally meant a geographic feature used by explorers and others to find their way back or through an area. Now, a landmark includes anything that is easily recognizable, such as a monument or a building, or any other spot to designate places that might be of interest to tourists. A few examples are the Statue of Liberty, Uluru, the Taj Mahal, Mount Everest, and the Eiffel Tower. When we see one of those, everyone knows in which part of the world they are located. Ghost Town of the Moscow Region - StumbleUpon
Some cities die. The people leave, the streets go quiet, and the isolation takes on the macabre shape of a forlorn ghost-town - crumbling with haunting neglect and urban decay. From Taiwan to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, these abandoned cities lurk in the shadows of civilization. Their histories are carried in hushed whispers and futures stillborn from the day of their collapse.

Storseisundet Bridge (Norwegian: Storseisundetbrua) is the longest of the eight bridges that make up the Atlanterhavsveien (“The Atlantic Road”), the road connection from the mainland Romsdal peninsula to the island of Averøya in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is a bridge on one of Norway’s most scenic and popular tourist roads – the Atlantic Ocean Road (Atlanterhavsveien in Norwegian). The bridge named Storseisundet makes a sharp bend as it jumps over a number of small islands and waterways. The approach to the bridge looks scary as the bridge seems to end abruptly and as if any attempt to proceed would result into the vehicle flying out and dropping into the waters below. Storseisundet Bridge is a cantilever bridge that is 260 metres (850 ft) long and with a maximum clearance to the sea of 23 metres (75 ft). It was opened on 7 July 1989, and it was a toll road until June 1999.

UPDATE: Treehotel are now offering their Mirrorcube treehouse as a turnkey solution available to the public Don’t get me wrong, cities are great. Hell, I currently live in London and before my days are over want to spend a serious amount more time in New York, LA, Tokyo, Paris, Sydney and more, but when you need to really get away, it should be to the Treehotel , not the Waldorf. An eco-based design hotel concept, each “room” is wonderfully individual with stunning design and even better views. With the plan to build 24 new treehouses over 5 years, a handful are already in place, and miles from civilisation offering the perfect, isolated getaway, just a touch south of the Arctic Circle. You are looking at pictures of a house I built for our family in Wales. It was built by myself and my father in law with help from passers by and visiting friends. 4 months after starting we were moved in and cosy. I estimate 1000-1500 man hours and £3000 put in to this point. Not really so much in house buying terms (roughly £60/sq m excluding labour). The house was built with maximum regard for the environment and by reciprocation gives us a unique opportunity to live close to nature.

With this immersive installation, French artist Serge Salat invites visitors to take a journey through endless layers of space, decked out with cubic shapes, panels of mirrors, shifting lights and music. “Beyond Infinity” is a multi-sensory, multimedia experience that blends Eastern Chinese with Western Renaissance. Inspired by the Suzhou Gardens, a masterpiece of Chinese landscape, the three-lined trigram of I Ching is the main pattern that organizes the space of the work. Salat uses mirrors as optical illusions, exploding a single room into spatial infinity.
