DIY Sparkly Statement Necklace

(Ermg. Serious chuckles at that post from my first time in NYC.) I found this incredible collar necklace base tucked away in one of the boxes in the shop and I was really drawn to it. I've been really envious of my roommate Adele's statement necklace that she bought at this consignment shop in Princeton, NJ last spring. When I saw the collar base in the trimmings shop, I decided to try and make my own statement necklace. To make the necklace I collected some of my broken necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and sparkly beads that I had kept over the years. How to Create a Beaded Bezel Cabochon. How to Create a Beaded Bezel Cabochon

The piece can then be embellished with fringe or accent beads and turned into a pin or necklace. STEP 1.Apply a very small amount of glue to the center back of the cabochon, and place it onto the center of your leather scrap. STEP 2.Thread your needle with an arm's length of beading thread, then knot the end. Peyote/brick stitch patterns. Beaded Paisleys ~ Instructions to bead these lovely, variable motifs.

Colorful, curved abstract figures that delight the eye in all their myriad renditions. The paisley is one of the most enduring motifs, having been in constant use, in one way or another, for more than 2000 years. In ancient civilization, it originated as a representation of a plant form -- the date palm, the Tree of Life, so named because of its supply of both food and shelter, the two main necessities of life. It is thought that the motif itself is representative of the tightly curled palm frond just as it begins to grow, prized by the Babylonians as a symbol of fertility.

The peoples of India used the Babylonian motif in many media, from stonecarving to textiles. In the 18th Century, the men of the British East India Company were the first to take an interest in the shawls, which they began to include amongst the gifts they brought back to their womenfolk. The embroidered medallions in these two necklaces were made to be used as parts of a larger necklace that I intended to create for the February EBW challenge "A Touch of Royalty". Jumping from one project to another, I realized that I would not be able to make all the parts I needed for the necklace in time to submit it to the challenge, so I decided to use the ones I already made in two separate necklaces. Time is the most precious thing.... ;) Check out the EBW blog to see all 62 (!) Entries. I am sure, that like myself, you will find it hard to pick just one to vote for from all the beautiful and original works created for this challenge!
