Ernst Haeckel. Ernst Haeckel Ernst Haeckel: Christmas of 1860 (age 26) Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (February 16, 1834 – August 9, 1919[1]) was a German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology, including anthropogeny, ecology, phylum, phylogeny, stem cell, and the kingdom Protista. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin's work in Germany and developed the controversial recapitulation theory ("ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny") claiming that an individual organism's biological development, or ontogeny, parallels and summarizes its species' evolutionary development, or phylogeny. The published artwork of Haeckel includes over 100 detailed, multi-colour illustrations of animals and sea creatures (see: Kunstformen der Natur, "Art Forms of Nature"). Every since I made the DIY faceted earrings I’ve been considering how to make a necklace in a similar way with a slightly different look. Supplies - Polymer clay- I used white, but use whatever color you like - Glitter – I recommend the fine Martha Stewart branded glitter, it really is superior - Blade – Polymer clay blade or razor blade (be careful!)

- Chain- Any kind - Bamboo skewer Steps: 1. Tagged as: diy, geometric, glitter, gold, necklace, pendant, polymer clay, white. DIY Orange Bracelets. Because I’m thinking orange this week I thought I’d share a couple DIYs that pre-date this blog. The bracelet above is one I did over a year ago and it’s really simple to make. The chain was from Michaels and I used embroidery floss to wrap two lengths of it together…. that’s it!

It also reminds me of the project Honestly WTF posted a few months ago – they’re both takes on the same general trend. This one is made from Indian glass beads wire-wrapped to a chain. It’s a simple technique that looks cool when it’s repeated with tons of beads. Tagged as: bracelets, diy, jewelry, orange. Top 11 DIY Fashion Blogs. Update 7/23/12: Hey guys!
