Analysts: Qatar supports Gaza not Hamas. On Tuesday, Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, called on Qatar to end its support for the Gaza-based Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.
But it is Qatar's strength as a regional player, rather than its support for Hamas, that is at the heart of the recent rift between some GCC countries and Qatar, analysts told Al Jazeera. "The pressure on Qatar is not to do with Hamas, but it's the fact that it is a successful state that tries to engage in dialogue and it has been very successful in solving issues in the region," says Waleed al-Modallal, head of political science at the Islamic University of Gaza. "Qatar is a small country playing a big role in the region.
That is what seems to have angered the bigger countries nearby," Modallal told Al Jazeera by phone from Gaza. Jordan also announced that it will downgrade its diplomatic representation in Qatar, and asked the Qatari ambassador to leave. The rift is the worst to hit the Gulf states in decades. A Message from H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas - This Week in Palestine. Our challenge as Palestinians is greater than ever.
After 50 years, we are the only remaining people in the world who still live under occupation. And it has been over 100 years that we have been actively denied our right to self-determination, along with all the hardships associated with the denial of that right: exile and forced displacement, occupation and subjugation, harassment and incarceration. There is no doubt that the balance of power is still weighted firmly against us. But I believe in our people and I believe that, even in these circumstances, we can and will prevail. We have truth on our side and strength in our hearts. Our vision for peace remains clear and consistent: Two sovereign and independent states on the 1967 border: the State of Palestine – with East Jerusalem as its capital – living side by side in peace and security with the State of Israel. We are a small but great nation, proud of our diversity and identity.
Towards a Just and Lasting Peace between Israel and Palestine. Israeli settlers throw garbage, rocks at Palestinian shops in Hebron. HEBRON (Ma’an) -- A group of Israeli settlers attacked a number of commercial shops owned by Palestinians on Friday in central Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank near Israel’s illegal Kiryat Arba settlement.
Local sources told Ma’an that a group of Israeli settlers threw rocks and garbage at commercial shops under the protection of Israeli army forces. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the incident. Settler attacks on Palestinians, their homes, and properties are a routine occurrence in Hebron, where the settlers are notoriously aggressive to Palestinian residents.
Meanwhile, settlers from Kiryat Arba in eastern Hebron are well-known to be among some of the most extremist settlers residing in the West Bank. Settlers from Kiryat Arba also routinely attack Palestinian shop owners and homes in the Old City of Hebron, a location of strategic importance for Israeli settlers eager to expand even deeper into Palestinian communities. Fighting media silence on the Palestinian hunger strike.
Trump’s visit to Israel is just the latest thing to keep the Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike — already largely ignored by the media — out of the headlines.

Lord Rothschild: My Family Created Israel : Lord Jacob Rothschild had admitted that his family were ‘crucial’ in the creation of Israel, in a Times of Israel interview.
The 80-year-old Rothschild said in a recent interview that his ancestors “helped pave the way for the creation of Israel,” forcing the British government to sign the Balfour Declaration in 1917. The Rothschilds are commonly believed to have engineered WWI and waited until 1917 when Britain showed signs of trouble. Secretariat of the Palestinian popular conference opens meeting.
The second meeting of the General Secretariat of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad kicked off on Friday morning in Beirut to identify the practical tracks of the conference's committees and discuss the strategic plan that sets the course of the conference.
The secretary general of the Conference, Munir Shafiq, stressed in the opening speech the need to pay attention to the issue of the Palestinian prisoners who have been on hunger strike in Israeli jails for more than a month. Shafiq noted that all the efforts and the popular support that have been made so far did not succeed in forcing the Israeli occupation to meet the prisoners' just demands which are guaranteed by the international law, adding that time is a sensitive matter in this context.
He proposed that this civil disobedience should adopt, in addition to the strikers' demands, other demands involving ending the occupation and releasing all prisoners.
Addameer visits hunger-striking political leader Ahmad Sa'adat. Addameer's attorney Farah Bayadsi visited hunger-striking political leader and Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Ahmad Sa'adat today, 14 May 2017, in Ohli Kedar prison.
Addameer's attorney was previously denied visitation, but received approval following a High Court petition submitted on 10 May 2017. Since the beginning of the strike, 17 April 2017, Addameer requested several visits from Israeli Prison Service (IPS) to visit hunger-striking prisoners and detainees, but the IPS either did not respond or rejected the requests. Mr. Sa'adat joined the hunger strike, along with several significant Palestinian political leaders on 3 May 2017 including, Nael Barghouthi, Hassan Salameh, Ahed Abu Ghoulmeh, Abbas al-Sayed, Ziad Bseiso, Basem al-Khandakji, Mohammed al-Malah, Tamim Salem, Mahmoud Issa, and Said al-Tubasi. At 76, Tamam lives in the same refugee camp to which her family fled after their exile from Palestine during the Nakba in 1948. At least 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed between 1947 and 1948, as more than 500 Palestinian villages and towns were demolished to make room for Jewish settlers. Tamam still talks about what befell her family, reliving the dramatic and bloody events. Only a few years of her life were peaceful. Zochrot - Nakba Map. Israeli Prisons and Palestinian Lives – Palestine Square. Over 800,000 Palestinians have been detained or imprisoned by Israel since 1948, according to a joint survey by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, and the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
Published to mark Prisoners Day on April 17, the survey highlights one of the many practices Israel has deployed to displace Palestine’s indigenous population. Indeed, the deployment of discrete legal systems — one for Israel’s own citizens granting preferential treatment to Israeli Jews and another for those Palestinians who are subject to military occupation — coupled with the continuing illegal construction of walls, fences, and checkpoints, leads to the conclusion that the occupation “can be seen as a carceral enterprise, which is designed to control, confine, and dominate the Palestinians.”
Yet, Israel’s design of the prison experience is not the same across all of the occupied territories. Donald Trump tells Abbas 'we will get it done' on Israel-Palestinian peace deal. Donald Trump has committed the United States to helping Israel and the Palestinians reach peace, telling visiting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas: “We will get it done.” Trump spoke after welcoming Abbas to the White House for a meeting aimed at relaunching talks that have failed repeatedly to resolve the decades-old conflict. “I’ve always heard that perhaps the toughest deal to make is the deal between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” Trump said.
