Incredible Shrinking Games, or How to Remove Dead Air. The term "dead air" was originally used to describe the silence caused by an unintended interruption in a radio broadcast, but I'd like to re-define it and use it to describe the empty space so generously provided by many manufacturers in their game boxes.

Incredible Shrinking Games, or How to Remove Dead Air

I consider it a particularly fitting term because whenever I break the shrinkwrap on a new game and open the box, there's often a moment of silence (and an unspoken "What the... ") when I see how little space is taken up by the components! Now, I've been playing Euro-style board games for over 25 years, but it was only a few years ago that I decided to start addressing the Dead Air issue in my game boxes and take some action. What precipitated said action was that well-known gamer's dilemma affectionately known as "lack of shelf space". Of course, Dead Air is included deliberately in some games in order to accommodate future expansions for the game — which is perfectly acceptable, even desirable!

BGG is a great place to ask advice on where the good stores can be found. Of all the posts I've read so far, there are just a few that couldn't be answered. In this post I've tried to arrange the threads on gamestores by state. If you spot any mistakes, please tell. Please remember: BGG'ers like to link. The names in brackets are just an indication; most of the times people are asking for or getting info on stores in that region.
