New theatre square with Agora Theatre by Architect Ben van Berkel New shopping center The Promesse New shopping center The Promesse New shopping center The Promesse New public square in front of City Hall The character of the city centre of Lelystad has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. The centre will be clearly defined by a ‘green ribbon’ of proud trees. A large extension of shops, leisure, horeca, offices and houses will make the central area into a lively city centre. Lelystad was build in the late 1960’s and inherited the ideals of modernist urban planning. Public spaces at the first level will be removed to create more sunlight in the streets.
Lars Larsen, formerly of Kilo Design, is known as an industrial designer rooted with a straight forward approach to design merging elements of contemporary culture from high and low: the art scene as well as the street, the fashion house as well as the workshop. Lars Larsen’s natural eye for blatant and simple solutions to complex design problems, has earned him awards and instant acclaim as one of Scandinavian designs fastest rising stars. BIG architects founded by Bjarke Ingels has become one of the leading firms of a new generation of architects, repeatedly attracting public attention and triggering political debate with thought provoking designs. Often moving beyond the traditional boundaries of building BIG’s ideas absorb all the economical, ecological, social and political interests surrounding a project and turn them into back bending forms that are as surprising as they are obvious.

N A P - Trusted Subcultures 'New Amsterdam Park (N A P) - Trusted Subcultures' is a cross-disciplinary research project initiated by Rietveld Landscape. It investigates the way in which philosophy, cognitive science and architectural design can jointly contribute to the city’s social fabric and a well-functioning public domain. It is funded by The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) in the form of a “Veni” grant awarded to Erik Rietveld (Harvard University). The project addresses several questions vital for a better understanding of our everyday living environment: A lot of our governments’ funds go towards the improvement of social cohesion, but what is “social cohesion” in the first place?
