A quick guide to the “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008″ There are only five things of significance about the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA), in my opinion (although we do not yet have the final version): Drafted in haste, it will have many and serious unintended consequences. Its provisions are largely irrelevant to our economic problems, intended to treat the symptoms. Our leaders have no “plan B”; this is a “hail Mary” pass. The economic impact will be minor, or even less than minor. The next program (EESA-2009?) , taken by the new Administration after another 4+ months of weakening, will be the first important response to this crisis.

The government’s responses so far to this crisis are like beads on a string; each larger than the one before it — but all broadly similar. Government approval for fraudulent accounting, to hide the extent of the problem (Section 128, suspending market pricing of assets).Happy talk — do you remember the Treasury’s Hope Now alliance, in October 2007? English writer and philosopher (1894–1963) Aldous Leonard Huxley ( AWL-dəs; 26 July 1894 – 22 November 1963) was an English writer and philosopher.[1][2][3][4] His bibliography spans nearly 50 books,[5][6] including novels and non-fiction works, as well as essays, narratives, and poems. Born into the prominent Huxley family, he graduated from Balliol College, Oxford, with an undergraduate degree in English literature. Early in his career, he published short stories and poetry and edited the literary magazine Oxford Poetry, before going on to publish travel writing, satire, and screenplays.

He spent the latter part of his life in the United States, living in Los Angeles from 1937 until his death.[7] By the end of his life, Huxley was widely acknowledged as one of the foremost intellectuals of his time. Gandhi's Swadeshi - The Economics of Permanence. Satish Kumar Of the editor: The teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were powerful enough to play a major role in the nonviolent revolution that overthrew British colonialism in India.

They are clearly still of utmost relevance today. Central to Gandhi's philosophy was the principle of 'swadeshi', which, in effect, means local self-sufficiency. Satish Kumar elaborates on this important concept. Mahatma Gandhi was a champion of 'swadeshi', or home economy. For Gandhi, the spirit and the soul of India rested in the village communities. Principals of Swadeshi Gandhi's vision of a free India was not a nation-state but a confederation of self-governing, self-reliant, self-employed people living in village communities, deriving their right livelihood from the products of their homesteads. According to the principle of swadeshi, whatever is made or produced in the village must be used first and foremost by the members of the village. The driving force behind mass production is a cult of the individual. Swadeshi Economics.

Swadeshi and the economic development of India Stu Crawford Mohandas Gandhi presented a very useful and well thought out model for economic development in India. Gandhi saw the importance of the rural economy and thought that poverty could be alleviated by revitalizing village economies of agriculture and craft production by employing simple technologies on a local scale. Gandhi felt that India's reliance on imports from other nations was the cause of much hardship in India and that economies should be locally sustainable. Far from seeing industrialism as a cure, Gandhi felt that industrialism was based on the exploitation of people and could only result in poverty for a high percentage of the population(1). Gandhi's model of economic development was based on Swadeshi(2).

Swadeshi dictates that it is each person's duty to find neighbors who can supply our wants. An understanding of economics shows us that buying things from distant people can be harmful. On January 20, to mark the second anniversary of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, hundreds of activists and social artists engaged in street theater in the name of economic justice. Dubbed “Occupy Wall Street West” and organized by a coalition of 55 Bay Area organizations and dozens of Occupy San Francisco affinity groups, protesters peacefully entered Wells Fargo’s corporate headquarters and Bank of America’s main branch and held up signs demanding that banks end predatory evictions and foreclosures.

A Moral Economy: Faith, Values and the Federal Budget | Get Involved | Campaigns | Sojourners: Faith in Action for Social Justice.

Budgets are moral documents. How a nation spends its resources is not fundamentally about economics or politics, but reflective of the values it holds. As Jesus tells us in Matthew 25, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Christians are called to care for the poor and vulnerable. Our concern for the least among us follows directly from our faith. It is at the very heart of the Gospel. Our leaders often ignore the voices of those living in poverty. Wealthy special interests, large corporations, and those with political power influence the system for their own gain.

As policymakers continue to fight about fiscal and budget issues, we have joined with a diverse group of Christian organizations to form a Circle of Protectionthat calls upon our elected leaders to protect programs that serve the most vulnerable in our nation and around the world. IWJ reaches beyond its Chicago home to people of all faiths worldwide. As the Occupy Wall Street movement spreads to cities around the world, a Chicago-based interfaith worker justice group has published a downloadable model prayer service format. Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ) says the prayer service template is designed to help people reflect on a moral economy and basic human rights within the context of their religious tradition.

Written for clergy and religious leaders, the prayer service is aimed for those in the Occupy Movement, both at the New York Stock Exchange and in other cities, and for congregational use. Interfaith group takes to the streets in support of the growing 'Occupy' movement. “Many people of faith are seeking to understand how their tradition calls them to respond to the (Occupy) movement,” the IWJ stated in its press release. The Interfaith Prayer Service is available as a free download here. Like this: Like Loading... Moral Economics - Essay on economics and moral values. Historically China is well known for things like the Great Wall of China, its dynastic rulers and of course it superb china ware. It is not very well known for its Pyramids, well China has a large number of pyramids, possibly over a 100. Most of them are located in a 70-mile area around the city of Xi'an.

This has mostly been unknown by the out side world, thou as china opens up this may change. The first photo of a Chinese pyramid was taken in 1945 at the end of World War II. This White Pyramid is located in the Qin Ling Shan mountains about 60 miles Southwest of Xi'an. The photo was in the files of the US Military for 45 years before it became public knowledge. The biggest breakthrough came when Hartwig Hausdorf a writer and author from Germany, was able to visit some of the restricted areas in china, he then found and photographed a large number of pyramids. The main Pyramid areas are on the Qin Chuan Plains in central China.

Limits to Sustainability by Ulric Fayl v. Hentaller, Gilbert Fayl, Et Al. Change is unavoidable. Be it through natural processes or through intentional and unintentional human intervention, change will happen. It is our responsibility to ensure that change is desirable and ensures human sustainability. There is an intimate relationship between change and sustainability. It is the capacity to endure, survive and meet the present material as well as intangible needs of humanity while preserving the natural resources, our culture and legacy for future generations. The limits to sustainability are we ourselves. If we act greedily and shortsightedly, we will destroy a larger acceptance of what we have discovered as our universal values.

Not cold rationality, but value-centred efforts will make our present and future sustainable. Several major issues have arrived with full force on the global arena and are demonstrating our current shortsightedness: the financial crisis and evolving climatic challenges.
