Research Associates - ANFA - Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture
The Board of Directors of the Academy in one of its strategic planning sessions, conceived of the idea of establishing a program of Research Associates, people who would work for one or more years in neuroscience laboratories or architectural firms where they would gain knowledge of either field that was new to them. Thus, someone with a background in architecture would work in a neuroscience lab, or a neuroscientist would work in an architectural firm. During this time they would also seek ways to convey to the members of their professional base what they were learning.Activities - Research Projects Dr. Eduardo Macagno , ANFA's immediate past president and Professor of Biological Sciences at University of California San Diego (UCSD), and Dr. Eve Edelstein , ANFA Research Fellow and President of Innovative Design Science , and colleagues at UCSD have been pioneering research on how to find one's way in the built environment.Their approach utilizes cutting-edge scientific methodologies to inform research-based design. The team has made use of UCSD's Calit2 'StarCAVE', an innovative 3D, fully immersive and human scale virtual reality facility, to study human reactions to various architectural elements.

Our mission is to be the worldwide resource and model for naturally inspired technology transfer and commercial development. Our techniques are based on observing and understanding adaptations and systems found in nature. Through technology transfer—taking new and existing ideas and applying them in new ways—we connect nature’s designs with innovative human processes for the sustainable advancement of people, wildlife, and habitats.

Our Vision | Unifying Truth Project
We envision a world united by the truth of life everyone can see and check for themselves. This world will no longer be divided and run by belief, blind faith, greed and ignorance. We envision a world where all people work and live in harmony with one another and with nature to efficiently and effectively address and resolve the threats to the survival of the human race."Booktype is becoming the ideal platform for open publishing. With the booksprint methodology, Booktype enabled us generate the Spending Data Handbook in a few days, while remaining open to feedback and development." Friedrich Lindenberg Head of Labs (Technology), http://okfnlabs.org "I was impressed at how seamless and almost invisible Booktype was in the project. It was very empowering for all involved, it seemed to remove hierarchy and made the whole editing process very transparent."

The SDAT workshop relies on substantial community and stakeholder engagement and is a very intense and interactive process. Through community input at a public meeting and focus groups, ideas for addressing critical social, economic, and ecological issues will be translated into different concepts for neighborhood renewal. These will be highly visual, with plenty of maps, sketches, and diagrams illustrating sustainable neighborhood renewal. The Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) initiative is a national, competitive program of the American Institute of Architects. The program is a community assistance program that focuses on the principles of sustainability. SDATs bring teams of volunteer professionals (such as architects, urban designers, planners, landscape architects, hydrologists, economists, attorneys, and others) to assist community decision-makers and stakeholders to help them develop a vision and framework for a sustainable future.
