With the support of MEP Emer Costello (S&D, IE) This year, the Week had a particular focus on the upcoming European Elections of Spring 2014. At this occasion EUCIS-LLL launched its Manifesto for the European elections and many events took place in order to provide ideas on how to modernise education and training systems in Europe. Civil Society Meeting Place EUCIS-LLL members had stands from 2 to 6 December at the European Parliament. Animations and other activities were organised during the whole week. Exhibition The 10 finalists pictures of EUCIS-LLL contest on “The Future of Learning: Unlocking each and everyone’s unique potential” were exhibited at the European Parliament and the winners of each category were awarded during the opening reception.
Events EUCIS-LLL and its members organised several events during the LLL Week in order to raise awareness on Lifelong Learning in Europe with a particular focus on the upcoming European elections in 2014. /// Tuesday 3 December. European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 - Justice. Yet people with disabilities are poorer than other citizens of the EU, fewer of them have jobs, their opportunities to enjoy goods and services such as education, healthcare, transport, housing, and technology are more limited. The reason is the still existing discrimination as well as physical and attitudinal barriers.
They affect one in six citizens of the EU around 80 million people. By signing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), the EU and all its EU countries have committed themselves to create a barrier-free Europe. Even though the EU countries have the main responsibilities, EU action is needed to complement national efforts. The EU Treaties provide for combating discrimination of people with disabilities and the Charter of Fundamental Rights refers to their right to benefit from measures designed to ensure their independence, social and occupational integration and participation in the life of the community. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
The representative organisation of persons with disabilities in Europe - What's New? On 22-23 November, the 'Euro Mediterranean Conference on the Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities' in Madrid brought together participants from 18 countries of the Mediterranean region. Organised by EDF, the Arab Organisation of Persons with Disabilities and the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities, in the framework of the MUSAWA II project, the conference focused on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) at national level,the involvement and exchange of best practice on policy making and projects, asylum and post 2015 development framework.
It was also an opportunity for a discussion on the draft national reports on the rights of persons with disabilities on six countries of MUSAWA II project: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine territories and Tunisia, counting as well on experiences from Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, Sudan and Yemen. In URBACT II, the focus of exchange networks has been on fostering integrated and participative approaches to urban policies through sharing experience and practices, and improving local policies (production of Local Action Plans).
The full chain of identification, transfer and validation of "good practices" in the field of urban policies has barely been explored. It is proposed to experiment this "capitalisation of good practices" process with small scale pilot projects under the current programme so as to explore tools and processes to be embedded in URBACT III. Research should include the evaluation of innovative on-going initiatives that reduce sedentary behaviour, enhance the level of physical activity combined with dietary or other interventions. In this context, research should include the identification of "good practices", as well as the analysis of their economic and social benefits and impact.
Correlates will have to be detected (such as cultural, environmental, economic, psychological and others) that inhibit or promote the individuals capacity to increase physical activity, reduce sedentary behaviour and self-regulate their dietary or other relevant behaviour.
