The blog’s been sorely needing an update, so we figured we’d kick the updates off in a big way. 2012 was a huge year for us. HYOOGE. We had the extreme honor and privilege to work with absolutely amazing couples, fly to cool places to shoot weddings, and hang out with incredible families and kids. And our clients weren’t just clients…they became good friends. We were stoked to have had several opportunities to shoot alongside unbelievably talented photographers – Dorothy Huynh, Karen Obrist, Lauren Kennedy, Amber Zbitnoff, Christina Whittaker, Tim Sohn, Alex Rapada, and George Chaney.

We were stretched and grew in ways we never expected and we’re absolutely PUMPED for the future. Most attendees are likely already going to be taking pictures, and having them under one hashtag will allow you and your groom to go back and relive your big day immediately.

Group photos at weddings are important to capture, but man, can they be tired. I think everyone should have a great group shot (after all, this is a group of your favorite people in the world!) But I swear, if I see one more jumping shot, it's all over. I'm always grateful for the wedding photographer who mixes it up to capture these must-have wedding photos without making us roll our eyes.

These are some of our favorites for their creativity. From silly to classic, we adore these group shots. Grab some props Grab some props to make the shot less yawn-inspiring. Guild-style family portraits The Pinwheel Collective, two wedding photographers in Charlottesville, aren't the only ones to do this, but they were the ones to give us the name of this type of portrait: guild style. Use the horizon Hands down, my favorite group wedding images are the ones where the photographer plays with the horizon to make the subjects look tiny, or just to maximize the effect of the backdrop. So what’s it all about? Basically, this idea allows the bride and groom to see each other in a private moment before the ceremony. And believe me, this can get pretty emotional sometimes! My favorite idea is when the bride sneaks up on the groom and taps him on the shoulder. His expression as he turns around and sees her for the first time is truly priceless!
