I just hosted another birthday party! This was a craft themed party for my daughter who turned 5 in August. I waited to have her party until the weather got cooler and during the school year so she could invite her new Kindergarten friends.
I had tons of fun creating these cute vintage inspired face plates! I have a lot of pebeo porcelaine paint (both liquid paint and markers) and have enjoyed making my own dishes in the past. I thought it woudl be fun to make some face plates inspired by simple retro characters. This paint is pretty cool because you can bake it and it becomes safe to eat on AND dishwasher safe!
Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed. Dettmer manipulates the pages and spines to form the shape of his sculptures. He also folds, bends, rolls, and stacks multiple books to create completely original sculptural forms.
