This post is a discovery report written by Jared Flores and slightly edited for publication. It’s part of a series of candid essays written by Google Code-in students, outlining their first steps as members of the Wikimedia technical community.
You can write your own. When I initially heard of the Google Code-In (GCI) challenge, I wasn’t exactly jumping out of my seat. I was a little apprehensive, since the GCI sample tasks used languages such as Java, C++, and Ruby. While I’ve had my share of experience with the languages, I felt my abilities were too limited to compete. Yet, I’ve always had a fiery passion for computer science, and this challenge presented another mountain to conquer. The first task I took on was to design a share button for the Kiwix Android app, an offline Wikipedia reader. After a few hours of coding, the task seemed to be complete. With a newly-found confidence, I decided to continue pursuing more GCI tasks. As with my first task, the work itself sped by quickly. 9to5 Toys. Peripherals. Reviews. Both cases are considered “Air jackets,” and are physically the same. We will review the quality, functionality and protective nature of the cases at one time because they are identical. We will then take a closer look at the individual designs of each case. Quality:These cases are made from high quality plastic which resists scratches and breaks. General. While it’s always a good idea to back up those important files you have polluting your once perfectly tidy desktop, there’s no better way to celebrate World Backup Day 2014 than with a fresh copy of all your most cherished content to your favorite storage medium. According to WorldBackupDay.com, 30% of people have never backed up their files before, so we’re here to give you a break down of some solid storage options. Most people take a three tiered approach to back ups with local storage or NAS, external hard drives and online cloud backups just to be safe.
While both Dropbox and Google Drive are great options that offer free storage, you can always find out which online cloud option suits you best with 9to5Mac’s “Online backup services: why, how & which?” Guide. Now just days after the 50% off iPassword for Mac sale ended, developer AgileBits is dropping half off both the OS X and iOS versions of its popular password security app in the aftermath of the massive Heartbleed bug. As Apple has confirmed that none of its software or services are susceptible to the vulnerability, Agile has now updated the 1Password listing on both the Mac App Store and App Store to reflect the 50% discount. 1Password on iOS is available today for $9 down from its usual $18 and the Mac version drops is just $25 down from $50.
Both versions rarely see discounts this deep, the Mac version is the lowest we’ve seen outside of special bundle deals and launch pricing and the iOS version is within a dollar of the lowest we’ve ever seen it. The 9to5Mac team loves this app for its simplicity, ease of use and rock solid security. 1Password acts as a vault for all of your website logins, credit card information and other confidential data.
9to5 Mac. Reviews. I’ll admit, I’ve never felt the need to purchase network-attached-storage (NAS) hardware for storing and accessing my media or backing up my files. These days most of my content, from photos and movies to back ups of important files for work, are already stored in the cloud. My photos are (supposed to) auto backup to Photostream in iCloud, iTunes has all of my music downloadable from all my devices from the cloud, and any important files and everything else go directly to Dropbox or Google Drive.
Around 90% of my content is already stored and accessible from anywhere in the cloud. That being said, for the last year or so I’ve been hearing more and more about Synology DiskStation products. Coworkers can’t stop talking about them, and the products have received a lot of praise from many other reviewers as well. Apps. Enterprise. Apple Inc.
When the celebrity nudes story broke back in 2014, it was headline news in the mainstream media. The story was that ‘iCloud had been hacked.’ The truth, of course, was a little different. As we suspected at the time, and Apple later confirmed, the ‘hack’ wasn’t really any such thing. A combination of two techniques were used to gain access to the iCloud accounts. First, phishing: sending emails designed to look like they were from Apple asking the celebrities to login to their accounts, and directing them to a fake website made to look like the real thing. Second, guessing the answers to security questions – something easier to do with celebrities given the amount of biographical information available in the public domain.
That’s not to say Apple was entirely blameless. iCloud did not, at the time, offer two-factor authentication. It was this week confirmed that phishing was the approach taken by the main offender in this case. Expand Expanding Close. iOS Devices. Tips & Tricks. Preventing unwanted messages from showing up in your inbox can be integral to enjoying email.
In this article we will walk you through the process of creating mail rules that will direct messages to other folders or the trash based on conditions you specify. We will also discuss how to update rules to include additional senders or other criteria, and provide some common-sense guidance about effectively using mail rules in general. Mail rules allow you to direct messages out of your inbox into another folder or trash automatically, based on their sender or other conditions. Rules can be set up on iCloud.com if the email address is the one you use for iCloud (it can end in either @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com). For your other email addresses, rules can be set up in the Mail app on a Mac. If you set up rules using iCloud.com they are very effective, immediately directing messages to the specified folders on all your devices.
