As Kendrick says, many people use drugs and alcohol as a way out of problems in life, but the majority of people start using them because of peer pressure. They don't want to seem like a loser and want to fit in so they do whatever they can, and that is exactly what Kendrick did. Another song on this list is by The Weeknd, called "Can't Feel My Face." It depicts The Weeknd's struggle with a cocaine addiction and how the more he does the drug, the more he loses his touch with reality, hence the name, "Can't Feel My Face." A section of verse 1 states,
"And I know she'll be the death of me
At least we'll both be numb
And she'll always get the best of me
The worst is yet to come"
In this passage, The Weeknd personifies cocaine as a woman and writes how even though he knows that the relationship that he has with the drug is having a negative effect on him, he can't ignore the feeling he gets when he uses it. Both of these songs, and the rest of the songs/poems in this section highlight how alcohol and drugs are an addiction that may feel good but will destroy your physical and mental states.
