Very unusual. From what you describe, you've got 3 places to remove info - registry, Program Files, and Mozilla folder in your user name area. Stay away from trying a manual edit of your registry, as installing the production version of FF3 will take care of that - and allow you to then uninstall FF cleanly. So manually delete the main folder or folders for Firefox under C:\Program Files. Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home. Defraggler - Defragment your files!
