Heidi Bears. Knitting Tutorials from KnitPicks. Knick knacks & ric rac. Just listed 54 swatch bundles in my etsy shop here! Each bundle is approximately 1 sq. yd. i end up with a lot of fabric swatch odds and ends from making skirts. these swatch bundles feature sample prints, test ink colors, test dye colors, test fabrics, leftover pieces from print runs and dye lots, prints that i smudged but still have plenty of usable area, and other experimental fun! Based on suggestions after the last batch of swatch bundles, i did not trim these pieces, so pieces may have imperfections like uneven printing (light areas with not enough ink, or blurred areas with too much ink), smudges, stray ink or dye spots or small fabric defects. just in time for your holiday crafting, use them for all sorts of projects like patchwork, pouches, coin purses, dolls and more!

Fabrics are mostly mid-weight cotton twill or duck, and are machine washable and dryable. Handspun Yarn Shop and Fiber Art Blog by Neauveau: patterns. I thought I'd take some time to write about the issue of copy-catting in the fiber art world. What is copying, how to avoid copying, how to infuse someone else's idea with your talent & aesthetic, and where I personally draw the line on this issue. You must have the right attitude. Fiber Art has been around for 10,000+ years and a lot of these ideas and skills that we are taking credit for may be found carved into the walls of the tombs of egyptian pharoahs. There are no "new" ideas, everything everyone is making has at least one idea from someone else in it. All the skills we are using (knitting, crochet, spinning) have been around for longer than the fiber can survive. When I was doing some research on the history of spinning for Lexi Boeger, I was fascinated to learn that wool completely disintegrates after about 3,000 years.

We are all standing on the backs of those before us: our teachers, our mentors, our fellow artisans. Can a musician "own" a chord? 1. 2. 3. In short: Hugh Hopper. Making gloves with i-cord? Genius! Wandering on Ravelry I ended up on a pattern that suggested using the i-cord technique to make fingers for gloves.

I found the suggestion simply amazing. I've never made gloves because working the fingers with the 4 needles techniques was too boring event to think. But now I had a hint! My next step was finding exactly how to do it, and that's where nonaKnits entered the scene. In her blog she explains very well how to do all the fingers and how to attach them to the hand. It looks so easy that I'm going to try it right now. Finally I can say goodbye to mittens and welcome back fingers! P.s.It's so easy and fast you can't believe it! Kaite yarngarden.

Double Knitting - Knitting Community - StumbleUpon. Double knitting is the exception to many knitting rules.

You can double knit a stockinette scarf, and it will lay flat instead of curling. Color knitting will be reversible, showing a negative of the image on the back of the work instead of floats. How is this possible? Double knitting produces a fabric with the right sides showing on both sides of the work. This technique is fun to do and produces a thick fabric that is ideal for winter accessories, hot pads, and there are even patterns for double knit sweaters! Number 19. Tutorial how to read a Crochet Chart/Diagram Some crocheters are not familiar with reading crochet charts. Here is a tutorial that takes you by the hand and shows you how to read a chart with a crocheted example.

Following a crochet chart is not complicated once you understand what the crochet symbols stand for. The chart will often show you a few rows of the stitch pattern and not the whole pattern. In my opinion charted patterns are much easier to follow than written patterns. Each symbol refers to a specific crochet stitch. Crochet symbols are universal, that means they refer to the same stitches everywhere around the globe. On top of the page I placed a photo of a crocheted swatch. Below you see the crochet chart for that swatch and below that a stitch guide for the different crochet symbols that are included in the stitch chart. Now I will take you by the hand and explain how you read the above crochet chart/diagram. You start reading the chart from the bottom and work up row by row. Number 19. Below is a crochet diagram for that same swatch and below that a stitch guide for the different crochet symbols that are included in the stitch diagram. Now I will take you by the hand and give you an instruction how you read the above crochet chart/diagram. You start reading the chart from the center.
