THE DRUG DOES WORK. Buy a bottle of perfume and you could pay as much for its advertising as its contents. The Sceptical Shopper sniffs out some niche alternatives ... From INTELLIGENT LIFE magazine, January/February 2012 Wearing scent is one of life’s pleasures. Humans have been dousing themselves in concoctions of olfactive molecules since at least the Bronze Age, and any habit that persistent has to have something going for it. Yet it does seem odd that most of the time we mask our own, genetically unique smell with others so widely available you can catch a whiff of them in cities across the planet: Opium on the streets of Barcelona, Eternity in Istanbul. Heavily advertised, widely worn perfumes can smell good.

Unfortunately, having a bespoke perfume made just for you will cost upwards of £600 for 100ml of eau de parfum (the most concentrated form of perfume), whereas a similar volume of a globally available brand typically costs £70. What, if any, is the actual difference?

Boosting your mental faculties doesn't have to mean studying hard or becoming a reclusive book worm. There are lots of tricks, techniques and habits, as well as changes to your lifestyle, diet and behaviour that can help you flex your grey matter and get the best out of your brain cells. And here are 11 of them. Smart drugs AROUND the age of 40, honest folks may already admit to noticing changes in their mental abilities. A few drugs that might do the job, known as "cognitive enhancement", are already on the market, and a few dozen others are on the way. In fact, with the help of modafinil, sleep-deprived people can perform even better than their well-rested, unmedicated selves. So why aren't we all on cognitive enhancers already?

Gary Lynch, also at UC Irvine, voices a similar concern. Still, the opportunity may be too tempting to pass up. Food for thought The Mozart effect. Erowid.

Excerpts from Smart Drugs & Nutrients by Ward Dean, M.D., and John Morgenthaler Piracetam is reported to be an intelligence booster and CNS (central nervous system) stimulant with no known toxicity or addictive properties. Piracetam is inexpensive (under $0.85 per day) and available by mail (see appendix A). The subjective effect described by some people is that piracetam, “wakes up your brain.” The term nootropic comes from a Greek word meaning “acting on the mind.”

Piracetam is very similar in molecular structure to the amino acid pyroglutamate (see Pyroglutamate). Piracetam enhances cognition under conditions of hypoxia (too little oxygen), and also enhances memory and some kinds of learning in normal humans. The effect of piracetam can be increased if taken with DMAE, centrophenoxine, choline, or Hydergine. Piracetam: Profound effects of combining choline and pi... [Neurobiol Aging. 1981. 100G 3.5 Oz. Vinpocetine. Vinpocetine is reported to have cerebral blood-flow enhancing[2] and neuroprotective effects,[3] and is used as a drug in Eastern Europe for the treatment of cerebrovascular disorders and age-related memory impairment.[4] Vinpocetine is not approved in the United States for pharmaceutical use, but it can be sold as a dietary supplement. Vinpocetine is widely marketed as a supplement for vasodilation and as a nootropic for the improvement of memory and cerebral metabolism.

Vinpocetine has been identified as a potent anti-inflammatory agent that might have a potential role in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.[5][6] Controlled clinical trials[edit] As of 2003 only three controlled clinical trials had tested "older adults with memory problems".[7] However, a 2003 Cochrane review determined that the results were inconclusive.[8] Use as a vasodilator[edit] Vinpocetine is widely used in the body building community as a vasodilator.

Anticonvulsant potential[edit] Nootropic "stack" for optimum synergy. Piracetam is great but for me I need to take a lot of it. If you have the liwuid take a few bottles in the first coulple days, otherwise take 3-4 tabs 4 times a day for about 3 days, then lower the dose....Some people get good redults from 3 tabs a day, but I find I need at least twice that. Also you want to give yourself a break wevery couple weeks because although it's very safe it puts some stress on your kidneys. Choline, take as much as you can...I personally can only get them in 250 mg tabs mixed with Inositol and they are hard to swallow, I'd like to get about 3 times the ammount I do but it's just touch sucking down all those pills.

Hydergine normally comes in 4.5 mg tabs, I'd recommend two a day, but some people get srtomach trouble from it, if so 4.5mg a day is a good "standard"dose. I know nothing about Lucydril, but b vitamins are always good.... Hope that helps a little.
