Week 6: Art Appreciation – 5 Engaging Strategies | kamurray.EDUP2007. Art appreciation does not aim to fill children with facts about art but to develop their strategies of looking at art and making sense of what they see. In this weeks tutorial we explored 5 engaging art appreciation strategies for K-6 Students. Prior to this lesson it was my understanding that art appreciation was always a written reflection in which specific technical elements of the artwork were assessed. I found this boring, limiting and often intimidating, as I didn’t know all of the technical language used in the syllabus.

However, I now understand that art appreciation can be fun, engaging, verbal, interactive and creative. The 5 strategies we explored were: 1. 2. Compass with 8 points, asking: What is it? 3.
