A slightly expanded version was published in 1998 in Hebrew as a monograph by the Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University. The prerecorded audiocassette market of Beirut is one of the more sensitive measures of the city’s fever. In the 1970s it was dominated by immensely popular tapes of Palestinian nationalist hymns.
