Essa Academy in Bolton nearly doubled its pass rate at GCSE within just two years and has grabbed global headlines for its innovative use of technology around the school. The school’s motto is a simple, but powerful statement: ‘All will succeed.’

I have been wanting to write a post for a while about the amazing tool that we came across last year, that has truly changed the way we use iPads in our classrooms, but haven’t had a venue to do so. Now that I have my new website, I decided it was a must! If you aren’t familiar with this groundbreaking App, Nearpod, I want to take a minute to share it with you and explain how it changed our school.
Nearpod is an App that allows teachers to share presentations; but wait, there’s more! It also lets you be a fully engaged participant and interact with the presentation through polls, quizzes, videos, drawing interactivity, website-sharing, self-guided quizzes and more. Starting Out With Nearpod I’ll never forget my first experience with Nearpod. At Pine Crest, we differentiate instruction, and the iPad is great for that, but we still also provide whole group instruction.

As we prepare the buildings and new teachers, we are making sure every detail is covered for our next deployment of iPads: 2500 at our largest high school. These are the things we are working on, and I thought that they might help you too. 1. Wireless–Coverage and capacity You must have coverage for all areas and capacity for twice the number of devices you think you will have. 2. Good covers are vitally important. We choose to put the school asset sticker on the back where the Apple symbol is, make sure the iPad glass is sparkling clean, and then install a pristine cover. The Otterbox company stands behind their products 100%, and they have made every effort to keep us happy.
