Based on Scotty’s hat in Star Trek (2009), this floppy winter hat is knit flat in connected panels of garter stitch that go different directions. There are two ways to knit this hat: in two panels or four. The original version with two panels is here , and the revised version with four panels (more accurate to the hat in the movie) is here .
