With the tediousness of Photoshop and renderings calculating through the night, spending more that 20 minutes searching Google images for a specific texture or image can become a breaking point for many. Any way to save time in this field is a big advantage, especially in school. The thing is, there are a lot of free resources online that have already put in the hard work so that you don’t have to. Many of these sites were life savers going through architecture school. Below are some of my favorites websites containing free cutouts and textures. Skalgubbar offers up a large library of high resolution cutout people in PNG format.

Immediate Entourage is another great site to find a large collection of cutout people. Gobotree is a large and growing library of free images and cutouts created by the people at Vyonyx. 4. In the early years of free, online render-people databases, there was a stark homogeneity to the people represented. As the people providing the crowdsourced images were from predominantly Caucasian, Scandinavian countries, there was a surge of such people appearing in renders in projects across the world. In wake of this, other groups have worked to produce workable databases of diverse, culturally representative render people, giving architects and architecture students the freedom to accurately depict their work in its intended context. As well as being very high-quality PSD images (you will need a healthy portion of hard drive or a memory stick to store all of these), these 2D cutout people are conveniently accompanied by a premade shadow layer, making your postproduction life in Photoshop that much easier. The images include groups — ideal for busy scenes such as shopping arcades, stadiums and high streets — and individuals in a variety of poses, offering a high degree of flexibility.
