Over the past 30 years Haruki Murakami has produced one of the most distinctive bodies of fiction in the world, with his winding, unpredictable tales that walk the line between realism and the magical and unfold like a hard boiled detective story. He recently produced three novels in Japan that have been translated and bound together into one massive 932 page tome called 1Q84. Its about… a guy and a girl who are looking for each other . And like any Murakami tale, events never unfold in a way that you would expect. The story for 1Q84 actually grew from a simple three page story that Murakami had written in 1981 called “ On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning ”. As we wait for the release of 1Q84, take 10 minutes out of your day and read the seed for that novel.

Genie nanotech, space colonies, Turing-test A.I., a local singularity, crypto credentials, and private law are all dreams of a future where some parts of the world economy and society have an unusually low level of dependence on the rest of the world. But it is the worldwide division of labor that has made us humans rich, and I suspect we won't let it go for a long time to come. Introduction

http://hanson.gmu.edu/wildideas.html by Robin Hanson , Oct. 18, 2001 A wild idea is one that many people think is obviously quite unlikely. I'd say at least a third of these wild ideas are likely true. (Parenthetic links are to more of my writings .) Many times each day, your mind permanently splits into different versions that live in different worlds.
