Power door operator The Power door operator enables your elevator door to automatically open or close. You’ll notice that the door opens smoothly and quietly, but you won’t see the device that makes it possible. It’s hidden from view. A slow-close feature allows the door to reduce its closing speed when it’s four inches from fully closed. For added safety, the Power door operator automatically opens if it encounters an obstruction.

24-26 (Fri-Sun): It's moving time!! On Friday, we moved into our dome. We're a long, long way from being "done", but at least now we live here. Now that we're moved in, I think it is time to take a break from blogging. I'll continue to periodically update the photo albums.

This web site started out being a documentary of our building adventure for our friends and family. Many others have joined our community of interested parties of thin shell concrete structures. We have totally revised this site as it grew to over 45 pages and over 1,600 photos today.The pictures above show the front porch screened; this is a real advantage in our buggy environment. The pictures below are older and show the porch before screening.

A geodesic dome (IPA: /ʤiədɛsɪk/ or /ʤiədizɪk/ /dəʊm/) is an almost spherical structure based on a network of struts arranged on great circle s ( geodesic s) lying approximately on the surface of a sphere . The geodesics intersect to form triangular elements that have local triangular rigidity and yet also distribute the stress across the entire structure. It is the only man-made structure that gets proportionally stronger as it increases in size. When completed to form a full sphere, it is known as a geodesic sphere . Of all known structures made from linear elements, a geodesic dome has the highest ratio of enclosed volume to weight.

I recently bought a 20 year old, 100% off the grid, double geodesic dome near the town of Ward. It sits at about 9000 feet, miles from the nearest power or phone line. There are 3 power systems running throughout.
