There are many scientific facts mentioned in the Bible that were not understood by man until centuries after the Bible was written. Following are a few examples: The Earth and Space The earth's shape is perhaps the most important to deal with first since many critics claim that the Bible portrays the earth as flat. Before the learned ancients surmised that the earth was spherical, the divinely inspired Isaiah wrote "It is He who sits above the circle of the earth... The Old Man and His Big Book

Snow was falling, the roads were icy, and civilization was in the rearview. Tony Reinke and I had landed an interview with a 96-year-old theologian tucked away in rural Minnesota, and now we meant to make good on it, despite the distance and wintry weather. We knew we were in for a memorable day. Robert Duncan Culver is the only surviving founding member of the Evangelical Theological Society — and his mind is sharp enough to recall his membership number was 158. He taught a combined 25 years at Wheaton College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and stirred up his share of controversy. “I don’t mind disagreeing,” says Culver. He knew evangelical stalwarts like Kenneth Kantzer (1917–2002) and Carl Henry (1913–2003) and John Gerstner (1914–1996) — especially Kantzer (more on him later). He’s an eleventh generation American, of certifiably Puritan descent. Jews for Jesus. Why I, a Gentile, Love the Jewish People.

Why I, a Gentile, Love the Jewish People

A man, whom some might call a missionary, was making visits in a Jewish neighborhood. He found one person at home who said, What I don't like about people like you is that you always accuse us Jews of killing your Christ. " "Whoever told you that got it wrong," replied the missionary. "There, you see? " But why do I, a Christian gentile, and not a missionary, love the Jewish people? Perhaps my early education was neglected. And they knew full well that when the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) hung on the cross it was so they, lost sinners, could find entrance into heaven. But I was due for a shock. One day, I went home with her at lunch time and met her family.

Numbers, chapter 6, presents the laws of the nazirite, an individual who has, by a vow, taken on a special sacred status. We Also Recommend For the period of the vow, the nazirite may not have contact with any dead body, or consume any grape products (be they intoxicants or not), or cut his/her hair. Many have observed that these restrictions are similar to those of the kohanim, the priests. Furthermore, priests are prohibited from drinking intoxicants while "on duty," in the sanctuary, but they are not prohibited from doing so at other times, nor are they forbidden to consume nonalcoholic grape products. Often we think of the early period of Israel's covenant life as one in which God dealt out sanctity and special status on a rather arbitrary basis.

There is an explanation below. How to distinguish between essentials and non-essential is a very big question that is not covered here, but you can learn about that here. click on chart to enlarge Essential for salvation: These are the most essential doctrines of all. This includes what every Christian should always be willing to die for. What I include: Belief in God (there is no such thing as an atheistic Christian) Situational Ethics And God. Parashat Naso The importance of preserving the relationship between a husband and wife provides an example of the Torah's use of relative morality.

Situational Ethics And God

Provided by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, which ordains Conservative rabbis at the American Jewish University. Often, we define the moral position as the one that adheres to objective standards of right and wrong. Consequently, someone who evaluates an action in the light of eternal, immutable values demonstrates a higher level of moral development than a person who uses other, more situational standards. The roots of this perspective lie in ancient Greek thought, which associated the true with the eternal--what was perfect never changed. The Greek mind sought out "laws of nature" which functioned in the realm of human morality no less than in the realm of astronomy. A Feminist View.
