Sewing. How to Make Leaf Skeletons. I wanted to share with you a project from one of my readers who shares with us how to make leaf skeletons.

How to Make Leaf Skeletons

I LOVE this! I have several leafs in various forms displayed in my home and knew I needed to make some of her leaf skeletons to add to my decor. I love how a pattern of leaves can enhance the beauty in your home. So I asked Heather if she would mind sharing her project with you. You can find more great projects from Heather at her blog The Other White House. I have spent hours and tried various ways of making these.

You need washing soda, not baking soda! Gather your leaves. Washing soda is a strong base so you may want to wear gloves when handling the leaves. You will add 3/4 cup of washing soda and 4 cups of water to your pot of leaves. Keep going, you will need to add more water so your pan doesn’t dry out. When 1.75 hours are up fill a glass baking dish with cool water. I carefully removed them and rinsed with water and added clean water to the pan. 37.1Kstumbleupon. Quilt Block of the Month No 4 / Sewing and Quilting. We are into month four of my new years resolution!

Quilt Block of the Month No 4 / Sewing and Quilting

It feels good to be completing this every month. If you haven't read about my resolution for this year, that is 2012, I plan to stitch one new quilt block every month. The concept for this year is that by making one quilt block every month, I will have a total of 12 blocks by the end of the year, ready to be sewn together into a new quilt. And moving forward, I have this months quilt block ready to share with you! For this month's block, my fourth block in the series, I go back to sewing with scraps. To begin, collect or trim scrap fabrics to measure 1, 1.5, 2.25 inches (+seam allowances) in width. Join same width fabrics to form a long strip. Arrange these strips as seen in the photo below. Pin the strips, and sew them together.

To make a 8.5 by 8.5 inch square block, place the Fiskars acrylic block on top, making sure to align the center diagonals and trim using the Rotary Cutter. How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color. We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!).

How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color

So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint... Supplies: 1/2 cup acrylic paint (choose any color you like, or mix colors together to make the perfect shade!)

Where Are All Those Quilter Supplies Going?

As you read this posting, thirteen Quilters from our local quilting group are having a fun-filled week at our annual quilting retreat at a Church Camp situated on a lake. We are all under one roof to work, play, and rest for our personal little “vacation”. The work comes before leaving home. Decisions have to be made about which projects to take to work on (making sure we have the right colored threads), and which quilter supplies will be needed (making sure we have our favorite tools – like my “awl” that I use all the time when I sew). This photo shows a quilting tote that holds rulers, mats, travel iron, surge protector, container with threads, as well as many other quilter supplies.
