Bike sharing programs are spreading throughout the world, David Byrne’s new book Bicycle Diaries is flying off the shelves, and brilliant new designs like this, this and this, are appearing all over the globe. A wonderfully quirky addition to the scene is the Hopworksfiets party bike, a brilliant mash-up of human-powered pizza delivery, brew pub, and portable entertainment system.

Created by Portland, OR-based bike builders Metrofiets, the Hopworksfiets is designed to deliver everything you need to get your pedal-powered party rolling. Building upon a unique Metrofiets cargo bike design which puts the load in front of the rider, the main cargo of the Hopworksfiets is contained in a large metal ‘bucket’ which holds two full-sized kegs and 25 lbs of ice. After traveling through 50 feet of cooling coil, perfectly chilled beer flows into your glass from custom designed taps made from Shimano components—and a dash of imagination.

Via Bike Portland. Barcelona's Best Bites - The Amateur Gourmet. August 18, 2009 | By Adam Roberts | 48 Comments How do you sum up a city’s food in one post? It’s an impossible task, and one I can’t even pretend to set out to do. I considered splitting this up into multiple posts–one on tapas, one on Bistronomics (a new restaurant trend in Barcelona, where high-end restaurants serve multiple courses for reasonable prices)–but ultimately I thought it would be more useful to you, and more manageable for me, just to pick the best bites from our trip. What you’re about to see represents the best food we ate in one of the world’s great food cities: Barcelona, Spain. If you’re planning a trip there soon, you may want to follow our lead. Let’s start with tapas. Here’s the thing about tapas. But in Barcelona, things are different than in the U.S. Our first tapas meal was the meal we had at the place pictured in the lead photo–Bar Pinotxo, right at the entrance to the Boqueria market.

At Bar Pinotxo, they humored us. Funny story. And it was true! Big mistake! Bottoms Up! | A Love Affair with Taverns, Bars & Pubs. For a lot of us, one of the most exciting milestones in our lives is when we reach that magical age when we’re finally old enough to buy and consume alcohol– and step foot into a bar for the first time. America has a longtime love affair with drinking and bars– alcohol seems to be the magic elixir for all our worries, and the hazy comfort of a favorite bar can be like collagen for our souls. Just seeing all the shiny glasses & colorful bottles lined-up and ready for business is comforting, and seems to put all things in order. I am not what you’d call a frequent bar patron anymore– family and priorities have other plans, which is just fine with me. But when I do get an hour or two to unwind with a friend and a cold one, maybe even catch a great game too– it’s a very special time to relish. Quirky, softly-lit bars are to Neukölln what kid-friendly Bio-Cafes are to Prenzlauer Berg. They’re everywhere. In fact, if you fell over within a 1km radius of the Schillerpromenade, you’d probably land on an upcycled armchair with a Moscow Mule in your hand. Such is their abundance, that picking one to park up in can prove problematic (first world problems eh?). Art und Weise, though, is a great place to hedge your bets. It ticks many boxes of the modern Kneipe: There’s foosball out back, giant art on the wall, and the vibe is more ‘kick back’ than ‘kick off’.

Decor-wise, it treads the line between beaten up and slick, with its bare concrete floor, tattered two-seaters, and kitschy crystal-glass ashtrays on the one hand and its polished pinewood bar, velvet-topped stools, and hanging lights on the other. Friends of the place spin crackly, old gramophone tunes on quieter nights, and let loose with meatier sets of a higher BPM come the weekend.
