The Sopranos. The Sopranos is an American television series created by David Chase. Revolving around the fictional New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), the show portrays the difficulties he faces as he tries to balance the conflicting requirements of his home life and his criminal organization. These are often highlighted during his therapy sessions with psychiatrist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco). The series features Tony's family members and Mafia colleagues and rivals in prominent roles and story arcs, most notably his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) and his cousin and protégé Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli).

After a pilot was ordered in 1997, the show premiered on the premium cable network HBO in the United States on January 10, 1999, and ended its original run of six seasons and 86 episodes on June 10, 2007. Production[edit] Conception[edit] "I want to tell a story about this particular man. "I said to myself, this show is about a guy who's turning 40. The Wire. The Wire is an American crime drama television series set and produced in and around Baltimore, Maryland.

Created and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008, comprising 60 episodes over five seasons. Each season of The Wire introduces a different facet of the city of Baltimore. In chronological order they are: the illegal drug trade, the seaport system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media.

The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Production[edit] Conception[edit] Casting[edit] Crew[edit] Episode structure[edit] Music[edit] Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks became one of the top-rated shows of 1990 and was a critical success both nationally and internationally.

It captured a devoted cult fan base and became a part of popular culture that has been referenced in television shows, commercials, comic books, video games, films and song lyrics. Declining viewer ratings led to ABC's insistence that the identity of Laura's murderer be revealed midway through the second season. The series was followed by a 1992 feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, which serves as a prequel to the television series. Plot[edit] The series is set in 1989. Each episode, barring occasional exceptions, represents a single day in the chronology. Season one[edit] Season one of Twin Peaks focused on the mystery of how Laura Palmer (played by Sheryl Lee, pictured in 1990) was murdered Laura's death sets off a chain reaction of events around town.

Season two[edit] Leo Johnson survives his shooting but is rendered severely incapacitated. Cast and characters[edit] Carnivàle. Early reviews praised the style of Carnivàle but questioned the approach and execution of the story. Carnivàle's first episode set a new audience record for an HBO original series,[2] but the show was unable to retain its ratings in its second season. Carnivàle was canceled after 24 episodes, cutting its intended six-season run short by four seasons. The show won five Emmys in 2004, was nominated for 10 further Emmy awards, and received numerous other nominations and industry awards between 2004 and 2006.[3] Plot introduction[edit] Production[edit] Conception[edit] Daniel Knauf conceived the initial script for the show between 1990 and 1992 when he was unsatisfied with his job as a Californian health insurance broker and hoped to become a screenwriter.

Knauf named the intended feature film script Carnivàle, using an unusual spelling for a more outlandish look. Format[edit] Airing on HBO benefited Carnivàle in several ways. Historical production design[edit] Filming locations[edit] Music[edit] Rome (TV series) The series primarily chronicles the lives and deeds of the rich, powerful, and historically significant, but also focuses on the lives, fortunes, families, and acquaintances of two common men: Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, two Roman soldiers mentioned historically in Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico.[1] The fictionalized Vorenus and Pullo manage to witness and often influence many of the historical events presented in the series. However, not all the events are accurate.

Tranter from the BBC has said this about the development of Rome: "It felt like something that could have been developed by us, and HBO felt like natural partners for the BBC".[5][6] On 20 April 2006, Carolyn Strauss, president of HBO announced the development of a second season for Rome.[7] Between March 2004 and May 2005 Rome was filmed in co-production with Rai Fiction in the Italian countryside on Cinecittà studios' six sound stages in Rome.

The Italian broadcast of the series was also marred by controversy. Deadwood (TV series) Deadwood received wide critical acclaim, particularly for Milch's writing and Ian McShane's co-lead performance. It also won eight Emmy Awards (in 28 nominations) and one Golden Globe. TV Guide ranked it #8 on their 2013 list of 60 shows that were "Cancelled Too Soon".[3] There were initial plans to conclude the series with two special TV movies, but the plans have not come to fruition. Several of the stars have since commented that the series is now unlikely to return. HBO had repeatedly asserted that the two movies could still be made,[4] but it noted in July 2008 that the possibility of the two TV movies being made was very low.[5] The show was produced by Red Board Productions and Roscoe Productions in association with HBO and Paramount Network Television (CBS Paramount Network Television in season 3). Deadwood Season 1 DVD The first season takes place six months after the founding of the camp, soon after Custer's Last Stand.
