My professor was serious. No, we weren’t entering a time warp to visit 1st century Corinth. We were traveling as a group to visit one of largest Hindu temples in the nation for another immersion experience in my World Religions class. Before we went to visit the temple, there were three weeks of eye-opening lectures in which we learned five very important things: 1. 2. The many “gods” that are worshiped by Hindus are merely manifestations of the One Presence. 4. 5.

It is my pleasure to be here at Innova Junior College to celebrate Racial Harmony Day. I want to thank Marian and the staff and students of the college for hosting this very special event. I am very pleased to hear what Marian has just outlined what the school is doing to promote national education and racial harmony. Indeed an important part of Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) is to reaffirm our commitment to racial and religious harmony in Singapore. 2Singapore’s multi-racial and multi-cultural diversity came about from our history as a trading hub located along busy sea routes. 3The racial and religious harmony we enjoy today is not necessarily a natural state. Inter-racial Relations in Singapore 4Singapore experienced racial riots on 21st July 1964, which led to the loss of lives, and saw how quickly communal tensions could escalate into violence. 5We have made much progress in Singapore over the past decades.

Living in Singapore, we sometimes take Racial-harmony for granted. We fail to understand that in other countries, some religion can be treated as demonic in the media, or worse, you can be humiliated or harm for simply belonging to another religion. Under Brother Jason, we went through an orientation about Islam, Muslim and why do Muslim Fast. Islam is a peace loving religion. Personally, Daddy beleves all Religions teach us to be good, we all need an open heart. We have a German in our group and he relates how media has brandish Islam as a evil cult in the western world.

In Singapore, he quickly sign up for the Ramanda trials to understand more about Islam faith. Through the class, we also learn : - when we bow and let our forehead touch the ground, we are letting go of our ego. . - when we pray to God, we pray for forgiveness.
