It doesn’t take long to figure out why. The famous novelist and journalist volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War. His recollection of his experiences are documented in his book Homage to Catalonia. Not only is this one of the few first person accounts from a soldier on the front line, but it’s also very sympathetic to anarchists.

During the era of the Vietnam War, I wondered seriously about the future and how it was destined to unfold. Now being considerably older, I have the vantage point to reflect back on my early ruminations and expectations. Huxley vs Orwell. George Orwell, the Fabian Society and 1984. Unfolding right in front of our eyes today is the world of Big Brother and Thought Control portrayed by George Orwell in his classic book 1984. 1984 was written over 60 years ago in 1948.
