Picturesque Barn Extension in France by PPA Architects. The architecture team of PPA worked on the reconstruction of an old barn in the highlands of Hautes-Pyrénées, France. The result is a welcoming rustic retreat, with appreciation for the local tradition: “Our purpose was to add an extension to the existing barn conversion, creating new living spaces (a guest room and multi-purpose room), along with a utility area and garage.

The specificity of the extension project is rooted both in the character of its natural setting and that of the existing building, and creates a double bind in terms of both typology and design. The extension was positioned in the southern portion of the site, on equal footings with the barn, and slips effortlessly into the naturally excavated lay of the land“. With a highly original facade defined by glass and logs, the addition originally combines raw materials like stone and wood, with a minimalist, modern design approach. Sophisticated Holiday Retreat in the French Alps: White Pearl Chalet. Barn House Eelde / Kwint Architects Barn House Eelde / Kwint Architects – ArchDaily. The Owhanake Bay Modern House in New Zealand. The Owhanake Bay House is a modern structure located on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. It was a project by Strachan Group Architects in collaboration with Tomik Ltd and Adam Mackenzie. The house is facing the outer islands of the Hauraki Gulf and it’s a peaceful family retreat. It was designed for a semi-retired couple who had very few requirements. They wanted a single-level structure, easily accessible. These sound like simple things to achieve but they turned out to be a challenge, due to the natural slopes on the site. The house was designed with three narrow pavilions.

The spaces between the pavilions are not empty. The house was built using durable natural materials. House on Fire Island | Resolution: 4 Architecture. Industrial Chic Twenty Cemento Kitchen from Modulnova. In recent years, we have seen a rise in the popularity of home interiors deemed to be following the trend for ‘Industrial Chic’. Those who have opted in to this trend have given their homes a distinctly industrial feel through the use of more industrial materials such as cement and metal which may not necessarily have been used in traditional residential home interiors.

The Twenty Cemento kitchen by Italian kitchen manufacturer Modulnova, is perfect for any industrial chic residential space. Using an extraordinary new resin technology, the cabinets can be coated in a 3mm liquid concrete layer. The coating dries to a silky smooth, durable finish and is intriguingly cool to the touch but with warm natural stone tones. The cement finish is complimented by the black granite Nero Assoluto sink and the brushed and oiled wooden breakfast bar which is cantilevered off the central island. How do you feel about this kitchen? Abandoned stable turned into family home by Ábaton Architects.
