http://foldingtrees.com/2008/11/kusudama-tutorial-part-1/ The Japanese kusudama is a paper ball made out of multiple identical origami shapes glued together. They were traditionally used as a ball for incense or potpourri but now we see them more for decoration or as a gift. Today I am showing you part 1 on how to make the Japanese traditional shape. There are many different patterns to make a kusudama ball but I find this the easiest pattern to get started. This is also the pattern I used to make the pink flowers on the tree in the banner. Below I will show you how to make the basic shape, you need to make 60 of these.

Voronoi - Yacht by Hyun-Seok Kim » Yanko Design

Yet another intriguing concept from yacht enthusiast Hyun-Seok Kim. The Voronoi mega-yacht is named after the voronoi pattern of the irregular honeycomb lattice structure that encases it’s upper levels. This yacht was made to entertain. Hot tubs and golfing green occupy the upper deck and within the lattice on the bridge deck lies an indoor garden and luxurious pool area. The interior has all the creature comforts of home and then some. http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/04/15/yacht-for-entertaining/

psimadethis

I’ve been roped in to a DIY obsession that’s got me all tied up at the moment. I cannot stop weaving and knotting for the life of me! Currently, were seeing the macrame and summer crochet trend all over the place. Don’t think hippie-chic looks and handwoven plant hangers- Macrame and crochet looks are back in a modern and wearable way. Chanel’s SS10 collection is bursting at the seams with this delicate, light-weight design that’s to die for. Oscar de la Renta proved this trend is gonna stick around for a bit as we spotted some macrame cameos in his Cruise 2011 show as well. http://psimadethis.com/post/781143080/ive-been-roped-in-to-a-diy-obsession-thats-got

mental_floss Blog » Gifts for the Geek Home

A home should be an expression of who you are. Sure, when you’re young and broke, your room or apartment might be an expression of who your parents or the people who donate to Goodwill are, but gradually you collect items that express your personality, whether you receive them as gifts or purchase them yourself. If you are a technologically oriented geek, there are plenty of manufacturers and vendors catering to your tastes in home decor. Windell Oksay of Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories built a dining room table with 448 LEDs inside. The lights respond to movement on and above the table surface! No, not a motion sensor, but light sensors that detect shadows and respond appropriately by activating LEDs in those areas. http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/62830

S03 Shelving System by Zhaolei » Yanko Design

I wuvvv the practical design of this shelving system. The shelves of the S03 can be assembled to any size or combination to adapt to the desired space.
I have seen tons of elegant flatware but none of them as ingenious as this! The Magic Spoon is a delightful set of spoons, knives and forks that have built-in clasps at the end. Yes, exactly the hairpin kind! You can cleverly cling it to your plate while clearing out the dishes, seal pouches or simply be this show-off with cool cutlery!
