Fun easy diy tutorial. these tiny candles are a really fun to make and come together quickly. AND you can up-cycle several materials in the process, which makes this a fabulous Earth Day craft :) {Earth Day is April 22} to make these colorful tiny candles, i used several materials that usually end up in a land fill: bottle caps, broken crayons, and empty soup cans. the only thing i bought to make them was the pre-waxed wicks which cost me $1.50 for a set of 12. these make a great kid craft {with supervision, of course!} How to Make Bottle Cap Candlessupplies: bottle caps, crayons {or wax}, pre-waxed wicks, soup cans, wax paper {optional}, small cooking pan, scissors, and water remove paper from crayons. you can also use candle wax if you wanted. put crayons in clean, empty soup cans.

Well, it's September and...let's just say the closet is a work in progress. Some of the things that are taking up space in the closet are shirts that I never wear anymore. Take these, all those lttle strips that you get when you're trying to straighten the edges of your fabric (lots of them in my case, I never manage to square up my fabric in one go).

Cut out two donuts of cardboard, (I'm sure everybody already knows how to make a pom pom, but you know, just in case somebody doesn't, I'll run through it) Mine measured approx 6cm diameter, smaller circle 2.5 diameter. Wrap wrap wrap your fabric around both circles (use a large crochet hook to pull the fabric through when the hole gets tiny). Snip snip snip through all layers. Get a long strip of fabric and tie tightly between the two cardboard circles. Cut away cardboard and hang pom pom somewhere. I choose this corner of Molly's room, being very careful not to break my neck negotiating the mess on the floor. Bad girl, she's not nice and tidy like me. Cough cough. Since I wrote this post about making a stencil I have found that making stencils are MUCH easier with my Silhouette Machine. A few weeks ago, I came across this amazing image fromWhitewall and Co. I instantly fell in love with their stencils, but the prices were a little too high for my thrifty core. Step 1: Go to Office Max or Staples and get some clear folders like the ones in this picture below. Step 2: Cut the folders and tape them together. Tape the two folders together to create a large enough area for your stencil. Step 3: Find an image that you like for your stencil and have it printed large enough to trace. I purchased my Japanese washi tape from Le Box Boutique on Etsy. There are hundreds of washi tape sellers but I chose Le Box because they allow you to purchase tape by the foot rather than having to purchase the entire roll.
