You’ve no doubt heard by now that Apple’s newest gadget, the iPad, was announced on Wednesday. Based on what was shared during Steve Jobs’ keynote demonstration, the iPad looks to be lightweight, easy to use, and super-fast. (A shorter, more digestible video is available on the iPad site). By now, every gadget blog and ed tech pundit has at least said something about the iPad. Keep in mind that most of them–including me–have yet to actually get hands-on exposure to the device. I’d imagine this goes double for the ed tech pundits, as most of the journalists and bloggers invited to the Apple event represented consumer electronics interests. So with that said, here are five ways, off the top of my head, I think the iPad could, hypothetically, be put to use in education and education research. 1.

The student is actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons. The teacher's role changes as well.
