Kentucky Committee OKs Bibles in Schools | News. Kentucky's senate education committee unanimously approved a bill Thursday that would allow teaching the Bible in public schools. The proposal would allow schools the option to offer Bible classes as a social studies credit, according to the Associated Press. Democratic senatot David Boswell, the chief sponsor of the bill, said the lessons would be based on literatary, artistic, cultural, and social aspects of the Bible, and therefore the classes would be constitutionally sound.

Sen. Julian Carroll told the members of the committee that passing the measure was the moral thing to do. "We took the Bible out of our schools, but we put nothing back," Carroll said. Over 100 Russians hospitalized after drinking holy water. This is yet another example of what can happen when people ignore scientific facts for superstitions. The Orthodox Christian holiday of Epiphany was January 19, and the Russian Orthodox have an interesting superstition that goes along with it: The Holy Spirit, coming down upon the water, changes its natural properties. It becomes incorrupt, that is, it does not spoil, remains transparent and fresh for many years, receives the grace to heal illnesses, to drive away demons and every evil power, to preserve people and their dwellings from every danger, to sanctify various objects whether for church or home use.

Yep, God is apparently so good at water purification, he changes its natural properties...whatever that means. People line up in churches to fill their bottles with the holy water which is believed to have a curative effect. And what's the result? You know what? While these sorts of studies are fun for giggling at people who hold ludicrous beliefs, they're also useful. 1. U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed With Secret ‘Jesus’ Bible Codes. Click for video express - Bereaved parents George and Lina Tannous believe their dead son is performing miracles at their house. They claim a mysterious oil that weeps from the walls of his bedroom and leaves messages has helped to heal dozens of people. The oil, which scientists have failed to identify, started to appear just weeks after the 17-year-old died in a car accident in September 2006. Lina, who insists her son should be declared a saint, said: “Mike is a messenger between us and God. He has healed so many people.” The number of people arriving at the house in Australia has been so great that the family have had to impose visiting times.

Those hoping to find cures for ailments ranging from arthritis to cancer come to pray at the Tannous home in the western suburbs of Sydney. George said the family was keeping a record of his son’s healing powers. Last year a woman who lived near the Tannous house was told by doctors she could not have the third child she desperately wanted.

Conservative Bible Project Cuts Out Liberal Passages. Lo and behold, the Bible has gotten too liberal, according to a group of conservatives. And it needs a little editing. That's the inspiration behind the Conservative Bible Project, which seeks to take the text back to its supposed right-wing roots.

Yes, even scripture is not orthodox enough for the modern conservative. Not that it's the fault of the author(s), exactly. The group cites a few reasons why the Bible is too progressive: "Lack of precision in the original language ... lack of precision in modern language" and "translation bias in converting the original language to the modern one. Patton Oswalt - Sky Cake. Ky. school trip included baptisms. By Andrew Wolfson, The (Louisville) Courier Journal LOUISVILLE — A mother is angry about a trip led by the head football coach at Breckinridge County High School. The coach took about 20 players on a school bus late last month to his church, where nearly half of them — including her son — were baptized. Michelle Ammons said her 16-year-old son was baptized without her knowledge and consent, and she is upset that a public school bus was used to take players to a church service — and that the school district's superintendent was there and did not object. "Nobody should push their faith on anybody else," said Ammons, whose son, Robert Coffey, said Coach Scott Mooney told him and other players that the Aug. 26 outing would include only a motivational speaker and a free steak dinner.

"He said it would bring the team together," Robert, a sophomore, said in an interview. Mooney, contacted by phone, said school district officials instructed him not to comment. Bachmann: I'll Run For President -- If God Calls Me To Do It.

Talk about a political draft. In an interview with World Net Daily, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) was asked whether she would ever run for President -- and she replied that she would do it if God calls her to it: "If I felt that's what the Lord was calling me to do, I would do it," she answered. "When I have sensed that the Lord is calling me to do something, I've said yes to it. But I will not seek a higher office if God is not calling me to do it. "If I am called to serve in that realm I would serve," she concluded, "but if I am not called, I wouldn't do it. " It needs to be pointed out that Bachmann in all likelihood is speaking figuratively here.

"And then in the midst of that calling, God then called me to run for the United States Congress. Christian Cowboy Plots to Bring Christ into Kids' Social Studies Class | Belief. When the Texas State Board of Education issued a list of proposed "experts" to sit on a social studies curriculum panel, one name immediately leaped out to defenders of church-state separation: David Barton. The panel is supposed to consist of academics and others with specialized knowledge to assist the board in drafting new social studies standards for public schools across the state. At the offices of the Texas Freedom Network (TFN), a group that monitors the Religious Right, staff members were alarmed.

"We believe there’s nothing wrong with teaching about the significance of religion in history and society today," said TFN President Kathy Miller. TFN, Americans United and other advocates of church-state separation are quite familiar with Barton and his antics. Barton aims to do that by rediscovering an allegedly lost or suppressed Christian history of America.
