In Need of Some Color

It's gray outside, yesterday it rained ice, something needs to change here. Glowing jar project – varázslat a lakásban (EN/HU) Giant knit rugs by mary marie knits. I am not a knitter. I have tried many times, but the only fruit of my labor has been a never-ending scarf. (Knitting for me is like skiing. I don’t know how to stop.

This results in never-ending scarves and injuries.) So I’m in awe of those who can knit — and, most of all, those who can finish something. That’s why I’m so impressed with these giant knit rugs from Mary Marie Knits on Etsy: They’re made with giant knitting needles and rope, which is stored on a giant spool: Cool, right? Bottle (w)rap. I drink a lot of wine.

Bottle (w)rap

And end up with a lot of empty wine bottles that are oh so pretty, it breaks my heart to have to junk them with the raddi- walla. I've been trying to find all sorts of utility excuses to hang on to them - wate bottles, plant holders and what have you. And now I have the perfect non-utility excuse to collect some more! Used: Coloured raffia from Le Papier Empty clearglass wine bottles (Sula Zinfandel -which is incidentally my personal favourite) Heavy duty glue (I have this stick of industrial glue that solidifies when it cools but I guess Fevicol would do as well) Starting at the bottom (cos the top's a bit tricky) starting winding the raffia tightly around the bottle, pausing to add a bit of adhesive every now and then. Edited to add: A couple of months later some more string arrived. Amazing DIY Rope Rug Free People. Poofy Cheeks: Yarn Wrapped Letter Tutorial.

Last year around this time I was bombarded with baby shower invites.

Poofy Cheeks: Yarn Wrapped Letter Tutorial

This year proves to be the same! All of my friends must love Spring time babies or something! In these parts (Florida) it REALLY isn’t fun to be prego during the summer months, so good planning on their parts! So as a gift I love making yarn wrapped letters using the first letter of the babies name. This is the yarn wrapped letter that I made last year for a friend’s baby shower - My sister-in-law is pregnant and due in April. 80+ Best DIY Paint Chip Projects. Ever wanted to go on a safari and hang your find proudly mounted on your wall?

Big Game Hunting on a Thrift Store Safari

No, I don't mean the kind of safari where you wear khaki and shoot a poor animal in the Serengeti. I mean a thrift store safari. They have quite the selection of wild (stuffed) animals there. With a few crafty moves you could have a mounted head collection of your very own without harming a single hair on anyone's head. Never Lose Those Keys Again!

Who knew key holders could be so functional. Painted Bottle Vases. Crafting is near and dear to my heart and I realize that it is shamefully under represented here at The Apple Crate.

Painted Bottle Vases

So today I bring you a project that has long been in the making, recycled jars and bottles as vases! I have Martha Stewart to thank for the idea. She has a great tutorial on her website that I followed to make these. Lots of people are out there doing something similar, with either spray paint or acrylic paint. But what I appreciated about the Martha Stewart version is that the paint is actually on the inside of the bottle, so it won't chip as easily, and it uses enamel paint so I can actually fill the vases with water. I started out by collecting old bottles and jars; things I went through in the kitchen and saved rather than recycled. The hardest part of this was actually cleaning all of the labels and sticky residue off! The tutorial was a little vague on what kind of paint to use.
