Heath Killen

You just can’t help but fall in love with the gorgeous posters designed by Heath Killen, now can you? Idiosyncratic use of color, graphical textures, strong compositions. Yes. LUDOVIC BALLAND CABINET. Cinemascope posters. Poster Cabaret > Gallery. Vintage Porsche Posters (Monoscope) Mexico 1968 Olympic Identity by Lance Wyman. Flyer Design Goodness. I spent the best part of this morning perusing a site called “Flyer Design Goodness”, a blog dedicated to flyer and poster art.

Flyer Design Goodness

(And yes, I am very, very happy to get a chance to use the word “perusing”.) In their own words: “Flyer Goodness is a flyer design blog dedicated to highlighting disposable art -- masterpieces that are thrown in the garbage, rained on, and plastered over in less than a week.” Well, I for one am glad that someone is saving all this stuff from being rained on and showcasing it on the net. What a treasure throve! Check out the selection I’m presenting here and then mosy on over to their site. (And yes, very glad to use “mosy” as well…) As you can see, their collection is very diverse, ranging from music and film posters to real vintage Dutch design and work by contemporary illustrators. To check out Flyer Design Goodness go to flyergoodness.blogspot.com/ Typo/graphic Posters.

As I said yesterday, I’ve added a few new links to my blogroll recently.

Typo/graphic Posters

I thought it would be a good idea to elaborate a bit on some of these newcomers. Today: “Typo/graphic Posters”. No, once again, it is not the most mysterious of titles. And yes, it delivers exactly what it promises: lots and lots of beautiful posters. You might think this is some kind of portfolio-website but the man behind the site, André Felipe, assures us it is not. I hope this small selection of what they have in store will convince you to pop over and pay them a visit… Yusaku Kamekura. There he goes again!

My good friend P. really isn’t the brightest of the bunch. Every time I tell him I’m going to work on the stories we are doing together, he starts sending me stuff like ‫ interesting videos or cool blogs on Japan or something. So I check them out, get carried away, waste most of the early evening and tomorrow he’ll be there going “Hé, how ‘bout our story? Did you finish rewriting that awful first draft you send me? Vintage Movie Posters: War. This is the final installment of our four part series on movie posters.

Vintage Movie Posters: War

Today we are looking at war movies. There was an awful lot of posters to choose from in his category and as you can see, I ended up with a post about twice as long as the previous ones. Again, most of them are from behind what used to be the iron curtain, but we also have some from Italy and quite a lot from Japan. You will notice that I took some liberty with the term “war movie”, not limiting myself to the traditional World War II movies but also including older wars and even some historical movies with knights or samurai.

Vintage Movie Posters: Sci Fi. Part three of the Movie Posters series.

Vintage Movie Posters: Sci Fi

Today: science fiction, monster movies and all things weird and out of this world. I tried to stay clear of the typical B-movie style as much as possible. It doesn’t do that much for me, and you’ll have no trouble finding plenty of the stuff elsewhere. Again, posters from all over the world but also, again, lots from behind the old iron curtain. Enjoy. Vintage Movie Posters: Westerns. Has it been a long time since you’ve played that Ennio Morricone record you love so much?

Vintage Movie Posters: Westerns

Well, here’s the excuse you’ve been waiting for. Put it on, grab yourself a glass of lemonade (you know you want to…) and sit back and enjoy the following selection of old movie posters. No, not the original ones. These are the ones they made behind the iron curtain: in Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc… These are the nice ones. From back in the days when they still tried to have some fun, doing a movie poster. My favorite is “Lemonade Joe”, without a doubt. Vintage Movie Posters: Thrillers. This is the second installment in our series on movie posters.

Vintage Movie Posters: Thrillers

This time we are looking at posters for spy movies, suspense thrillers, movies with cops, detectives and gangsters. Basically everything that has got guns and a lot of running around in it. Also, we broaden our view and included not only posters from behind the iron curtain, but from all over the world. (There is even a Belgian poster amongst them. Adam the Velcro Suit. I’m sure you’ve heard of this South African graphic designer/illustrator before, but I just couldn’t resist showing some of his gorgeous work here.

Adam the Velcro Suit

Plenty of blogs have featured his work, but nevertheless it is hard to find a lot of factual information about the man. The people at Black Harbor, however, managed to interview him. Go there if you want to find out why so many of his posters are for the “post-core” band The Sleepers…. Delicious Design League. What can I say?

They make posters. Great posters. Check out the videos… 2010 Jazz Posters. You may remember the posters Martino&Jaña designed for the Guimarães Jazz 2009 event. I was blown away by the gorgeous hand-lettering they featured. Well, they’ve recently completed the 2010 designs. This time around the series has an entirely different look and feel, which was inspired by the idea that Jazz can be colorful and fun while still maintaining a sense of audacity of sensuality. And I, for one, am loving the result. About Courtney Courtney is the founder of Design Work Life and Seamless Creative, a small design studio she runs with her husband Brian.
