Over the past year, we've been working hard at developing a brand new online training platform for Gnomon. While we have been providing online training for years through both the school and the Gnomon Workshop, we wanted to create a new experience for our students. For over fifteen years, Gnomon has trained thousands of artists on our campus in Hollywood. Through the live and interactive experience of taking classes with other artists from leading industry professionals, students not only learn the techniques necessary to create production quality work… but also create friendships with likeminded people. This personal network has been an invaluable asset to our students as they enter the job market, but even years down the road we hear stories of how these relationships continue to help students explore new opportunities at studios not just in Hollywood, but around the world. http://www.gnomonschool.com/programs/online_training/

http://www.3dallusions.com/forums/vray/3155-simplifying-vray-proxy.html Note: This is an advance posting, the image is still on posting process, sorry. VrayPrxoxy is one method of saving a lot of geometry as well as saving a lot of rendertimes by creating an external proxy to your scene. However some procedures might be consider for us not to end up rendering a proxy with just one material. This is the error we usually encountered... and this method hope will ease up and address that situation.

Grass with 3ds max and V-Ray for flat grounds

A lot of tutorials out there are talking about how to make grass with 3ds max and V-Ray. Some are very poor and some are absolutely crazy good (see link ) with everything in between. There are different techniques to create realistic grass including using displacement modifier / map, modeling and instancing, using V-Ray proxies, etc... http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/show/7946/grass-with-3ds-max-and-v-ray-for-flat-grounds

Architectural Visualization with HDRI Skies and Vray by Paco Morales, Mexico With a single sky you can alter the exposure level to create a number of different looks or atmospheres, as you can see in the images below. Or view the animation here. Materials For the materials, you can see the screen shots of the material editor below as reference. In the reflections of the submaterial, we put a falloff (fresnel), this will make a more realistic-looking material. http://www.cgarena.com/freestuff/tutorials/max/hdri-vray/index3.html

gw::Ivy

ivy's are designed to grow in scenes with real-world scale !! ivy's don't look that nice on a 500m tree... so, try to use this max-feature... growing an ivy is actually as easy as writing a plugin :)) it's even more easy if you read what's written below... 1) plant an IvyRoot 2) hit the "Grow" button 3) watch it growing in your viewport 4) stop growing by hitting the "Grow" button again 5) a Multi/Sub-Object Material is already assigned for mapping your ivy 6) want a grow-animation ? - set keyframes for the ivy age version 0.76b changes: - increased ranges for spinners (request) - 3ds Max 7/8 version (request) - better leaf-orientation algo, i think...

tutorial Peter Guthrie

First up some of my favourite images from my latest work for Willian O’Brien Jr. . As usual you can click through to see the full set on flickr. As with the Allandale House, the landscape mostly came from my imagination, with this as a starting point: We first tried out an autumnal scene with lots of browns/greens contrasted with white stucco clad houses, but I was especially keen to try a snowy scene (winter was still on its way at the time!). After modeling the house in sketchup, I placed it and a rough terrain also made in sketchup into a new 3dsmax scene and started creating a snowy landscape. This was done using the snowflow plugin to make snow cover over the whole terrain object and then the snowplug tool to remove snow from where it shouldn’t be.

About PixPlant

Why PixPlant? A good photo of a surface can invoke feelings and in a certain sense "tell its story". Think about a photo of an old wall with cracked paint, of the rust on a corroded metal door, of an old wood bench marked with decades of wind. However the very thing that can make realistic photos so dramatic - their detail and "realism", is often an obstacle when you need to apply them to particular situations, say when you need a tileable version 1024x1024 or a horizontal background image of 4000x2000. And it becomes more complicated when you need to build good 3D material maps for enhanced realism... The motivation behind PixPlant was to create a way to transform realistic images into useful seamless 3D textures, preserving the beauty and drama of the source photo.
