Überall hier scheint die Fotosynthese ganz mühelos zu gelingen: Die Palmen und Blumen entlang der Gehwege des California Institute of Technology (Caltech) aalen sich im Sonnenlicht und nutzen dessen Energie, um Zucker zu speichern, ihre Blätter auszubreiten, die Wurzeln tiefer ins Erdreich zu graben und sich um ihre Stoffwechselprozesse zu kümmern.
Im Jorgensen Laboratory am Caltech versuchen mehr als 80 Forscher, es den Pflanzen gleichzutun – und haben weitaus mehr Mühe damit. Das frisch renovierte Gebäude, in dem sie an dieser Aufgabe tüfteln, bildet den Hauptsitz des Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP) – einem Forschungsprogramm, das vom Department of Energy (DOE) der USA über fünf Jahre mit 116 Millionen US-Dollar gefördert wird und an dem 190 Wissenschaftler mitarbeiten. The Executive Innovation Work Mat methodology requires investigation and engagement across the seven domains or components that make up the work mat. The aim of any work mat discussions undertaken with executives focuses upon bringing out the parts necessary for innovation to happen and that needs an integrated approach and lasting engagement from senior management. In a series of articles I will be looking at each of the seven components within the work mat to raise questions to probe and prompt the necessary thinking that needs to be made in organizations determined to build a lasting innovation competence and structure.
