Sknifseht. How Electric Motors Work" Induction motor. Three-phase totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) induction motor, with and, at right, without end cover to show cooling fan.
In TEFC motors, interior losses are dissipated indirectly through enclosure fins mostly by forced air convection. Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are widely used in industrial drives because they are rugged, reliable and economical. Single-phase induction motors are used extensively for smaller loads, such as household appliances like fans. DC Motor Calculations, part 1. Overview Now that we have a good understanding of dc generators, we can begin our study of dc motors.
Direct-current motors transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. They drive devices such as hoists, fans, pumps, calendars, punch-presses, and cars. These devices may have a definite torque-speed characteristic (such as a pump or fan) or a highly variable one (such as a hoist or automobile).
