The Top Five Special Interest Groups Lobbying To Keep Marijuana Illegal. This article by Lee Fang originally appeared at Republic Report. Last year, over 850,000 people in America were arrested for marijuana-related crimes. Despite public opinion, the medical community, and human rights experts all moving in favor of relaxing marijuana prohibition laws, little has changed in terms of policy.

There have been many great books and articles detailing the history of the drug war. Part of America’s fixation with keeping the leafy green plant illegal is rooted in cultural and political clashes from the past. However, we at Republic Report think it’s worth showing that there are entrenched interest groups that are spending large sums of money to keep our broken drug laws on the books: 1.) RELATED: Why Can’t You Smoke Pot?

Friday, 4/20 is the official, unofficial, national pot smoking day. This means that we get to talk about pot, if not smoke it today here on addictinginfo.org. As a former pothead, I’m setting up my Cheetos and a dish of peanut butter for dipping, in honor of stony days long gone by. As a liberal, I have no issue with the plant, particularly when mixed in a well prepared gingersnap cookie. As a red-state mother however, there is no chance in heck that I’d risk my kids by using marijuana. Sad isn’t it?

The biggest risk of smoking pot is going to jail, and maybe losing your family. And so, I don’t smoke pot because I know that the reality is that the biggest risk of marijuana is the law. In fact, we all know that some people smoke pot to get better, not just without concern of dying. I’ll tell you what I do support. But Wait- There’s more! Think about the economic growth that would come with an industry that could contribute 6 billion dollars in taxation! I sure as heck would. Space law. Space law is an area of the law that encompasses national and international law governing activities in outer space. International lawyers have been unable to agree on a uniform definition of the term "outer space", although most lawyers agree that outer space generally begins at the lowest altitude above sea level at which objects can orbit the Earth, approximately 100 km (60 mi).

The inception of the field of space law began with the launch of the world's first artificial satellite by the Soviet Union in October 1957. Named Sputnik 1, the satellite was launched as part of the International Geophysical Year. Since that time, space law has evolved and assumed more importance as mankind has increasingly come to use and rely on space-based resources. To be honest I have very little hope for society especially when people are trying to do something about this whether it the right way or not but still trying, only to be met with total denial from all sides. As history has has told us, people only do something when its all or nearly too late and we are close to that point and even have an opportunity that will soon be gone. I consider the polar bear already extinct and in some ways I don’t think people even deserve the polar bear. Anyone that claims to feel bad about it when the bear is truly gone can stick it, because we had our chance but we have already decided financial gain for people who already have most the money is the best option.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a class of technologies[1] that are used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders, and individuals with the intent to control the use of digital content and devices after sale;[1][2][3] there are, however, many competing definitions.[4] With First-generation DRM software, the intent is to control copying; With Second-generation DRM, the intent is to control executing, viewing, copying, printing and altering of works or devices.

The term is also sometimes referred to as copy protection, copy prevention, and copy control, although the correctness of doing so is disputed.[5] DRM is a set of access control technologies.[6][7] Companies such as Amazon, AT&T, AOL, Apple Inc., Google,[8] BBC, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Sony, and Valve Corporation use digital rights management. The use of digital rights management is not universally accepted. Introduction[edit] Common DRM techniques[edit] Digital Rights Management Techniques include: United States Pirate Party. The party's national organization has existed in multiple incarnations since its 2006 founding. Its most recent is the Pirate National Committee (PNC), formed in 2012 as a coalition of state parties. The PNC officially recognizes Pirate parties from 8 states,[3] and tracks and assists the growth of more state parties throughout the United States. In 2012, a coalition of state Pirate parties formed the Pirate National Committee (PNC).[8] By July of that year, the PNC drafted and adopted a new constitution, which outlined a broader ideology inspired by Rickard Falkvinge's Pirate Wheel.[9] The Pirate Party defends their oft-criticized name[10] in the preamble of the PNC's constitution:[2] For our values, we have been derided as “pirates”.

The Pirate Party's platform originally centered on issues of intellectual property. As of 2013, the national Pirate Party has not adopted an agenda beyond a set of 8 core values. Official Website. Pirate Party Germany. According to political theorist Oskar Niedermayer,[5] the party sees itself as part of an international movement to shape with their term of "digital revolution" which is a circumscription for the transition into information society.

With their focus on freedom in the net and their fight against government regulations of this sphere, they caught the attention especially of the younger generation. Even if the network policy is the core identity of the party, it is now more than just an advocacy party of "digital natives" and characterises itself as a social-liberal-progressive.[5] Former federal chairman Sebastian Nerz sees the party as social-liberal party of fundamental rights which among other things wants to advocate for political transparency.[6][7] Party Platform[edit] The party supports the preservation of current civil rights in telephony and on the Internet; in particular, it opposes the European data retention policies. Trotsky identified as an orthodox Marxist and Bolshevik-Leninist, and supported founding a vanguard party of the working-class. His politics differed sharply from those of Stalinism, as he opposed the idea of Socialism in One Country. Trotsky still supported proletarian internationalism, and a dictatorship of the proletariat based on working-class self-emancipation and mass democracy. He did not believe in the unaccountable bureaucracy developed under Stalin after Lenin's death. Vladimir Lenin and Trotsky were close both ideologically and personally during the Russian Revolution and its aftermath, and some call Trotsky its "co-leader".[1] However, Lenin criticized Trotsky's ideas and intra-Party political habits. Trotsky originally opposed some aspects of Leninism. Definition According to Trotsky, his thought could be distinguished from other Marxist theories by five key elements: Theory Permanent Revolution History Origins.

This frequently reprinted work analyzed and criticized the course of historical development in the Soviet Union following the death of V. I. Lenin in 1924 and is regarded as Trotsky's primary work dealing with the nature of Stalinism. Historical background[edit] Lev Davidovich Bronshtein (1879-1940), best known by the pseudonym Leon Trotsky, was one of the top leaders of the October Revolution of 1917 which brought a faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (the Bolsheviks) (RSDLP) to power in Russia.

A superdollar (also known as a superbill or supernote) is a very high quality counterfeit United States one hundred-dollar bill,[1] alleged by the U.S. Government to have been made by unknown organizations or governments.[2][3] In 2011 government sources stated that these "counterfeit bills were in worldwide circulation from the late 1980s until at least July 2000" in an extradition court case.[4] Various groups have been suspected of creating such notes, and international opinion on the origin of the notes varies.

The U.S. Government believes that most likely most of these notes were produced in North Korea.[5] Over $35 million of $100 bills were produced by British criminals arrested in 2002. Other sources claimed include criminal gangs in Iran, Russia, China or Syria. The name derives from the fact that the quality of the notes exceeds that of the originals.[6] Production[edit] Arrests in United States[edit] Confirmed sources[edit] British criminals[edit] Possible sources[edit] The U.S. United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship. Pattaya[edit] Stranded flotilla activists still hopeful - Europe. Most of the nine vessels that pro-Palestinian activists planned to sail on as part of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in defiance of an Israeli blockade remain stranded in Greece ports, after Greek authorities forbade them from embarking on the journey. Two vessels have been sabotaged and are currently unable to sail, while most of the others remain under the watchful eye of Greek coastguard or military personnel. Despite their growing frustration and diminishing morale, some activists are hopeful that their Gaza Flotilla II would finally be able to make the journey and break Israel's siege on the Palestinian territory.
