Modern: Freeform Pool by Thomas Church

Thomas Church introduced Northern California with the modern movement while Garrett Eckbo was one of the leading landscape designers in Southern California. Thomas Church grew up in California, and after years of education, travel, and teaching, he opened his own firm in San Francisco. A prime example of his unique awe-inspiring mid century modern landscape design talent is the Donnell Garden in Sonoma. This classic icon of mid century modern landscape design has an irresistible free-form kidney style in the typical modernist manner of the 1950s. Designed at a time in which California’s economy was booming and its population rapidly increasing, Church conceived a garden offering places to relax, entertain, swim, play, garden and BBQ. The Donnell garden took form on a hillside in Sonoma, at the top of San Francisco Bay. Decking, configured to embrace the existing trees. - StumbleUpon.

This idea is very inexpensive idea and it’s a great way to recycle a wine bottle. See how this simple idea inspired this brand and wine bottle design. It’s been a record year for mosquitoes here in Indianapolis, Indiana and I’d been wanting to add some Tiki-esque torches to the patio to combat the little buggers, and add a little ambiance. After searching the world over to find a torch that was affordable and atypical I came to the conclusion that unless I wanted wicker or bamboo, I needed to be a bit more resourceful. Here’s what you’ll need. Empty Wine Bottle (Use any bottle as long as it’s glass and the neck is 1” in diameter. Helpful Tools: Channellocks, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, power screwdriver, and a funnel. Safety Note: This is for outdoor use only. The Hanger -Erik. Faun Furniture: 'Bambi Table' Bends Gracefully at the Knees.

More parts and pieces means more things that can break or otherwise go wrong over the long haul – a simpler solution is often possible, as in this case of this adjustable-height table that works with minimal moving elements to accommodate two levels of use. Per its creator, Caroline Olsson, the coffee-or-dining Bambi table was “inspired by the anatomy of the knee, where the bones can only bend one way. The location and angle of the table legs, as well as the meeting points of the joints, help keeping the table upright and stable.” “When the table is folded down and used at the lower level it can give you associations to a small foal who has bent its legs and laid down to rest in the meadow.”

Made of simple birch and spray-painted steel, the heights come to 29 and 18 inches, depending on its configuration. Adorable concept, clean execution (no pun intended). Geek Living Daily 120502. This post is part of our daily blog that shows our collection of geeky home living products or designs.
