Fracking Accidents. Fracker Tracker. Fracking for shale gas and Coal Bed Methane are new to Alberta (although they are more advanced in this province then others in Canada).

While industry likes to point out that fracking has taken place over the past 50 years in the province, fracking for unconventional gas presents new challenges. Shale gas: According to the Alberta Geological Survey, there are 15 prospective shale gas formations in the province. The Gas Technology Institute estimates Alberta has approximately 850 trillion cubic feet of shale gas potential.

Alberta Energy reports that the majority of shale gas production in the province uses vertical wells, “As of July 2011, shale gas production in Alberta has not used the horizontal drilling with multi-stage fracturing methodology commonly used in other jurisdictions.
