Prepping for a future Rapture, Snozzberry Shot in Hand. As I sit here waiting for the end of the world… (not really, but humor me). I began to realize I was totally unprepared, the next time around I want to make sure I’m completely ready! Or, at a minimum I would want to make sure and enjoy a few things right before the on-set date of rapture. Before we go over my list, I have a one quick question for you: Given the choice, would you take the blue pill or the red pill? I would personally go for the blue pill, because after all I am a “Dreamer”, and I prefer the “Ignorance is Bliss” school of thought.

OK, now on to the list… Note: Please keep in mind, I’m a simple girl, and given the circumstances of a rapture, it’s safe to assume all sensibility, concern for my waistline, cardiovascular and liver health, have and/or will be thrown out the window. After a week of pure foodie pleasure, I will be sure and await my time with my interpretation of a Snozzberry Shot in hand. Because, there has to be such a thing as a snozzberry shot! Be Sociable, Share! Quick and Easy Dessert: 15-minute Butterscotch Pudding. Photo: Lindsay Hunt I imbue family recipes with importance I don’t even give to published cookbooks. Something about knowing it worked for my mother or grandmother, or even great-grandmother, makes me hesitant to change the way they’ve written a recipe.

At culinary school I even centered my big project around my grandmother’s recipe box. One recipe for a Ham Souffle she called for spam instead of ham. That time I allowed a modification to the ingredient list. So with most recipes, I am constantly making notes as I cook. Other than weighing the brown sugar and butter for other digital scale-lovers like me, I only added one note: this pudding only takes 15 minutes to make. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. New York Style Coffee Cake – Fake Ginger.

I’ve been hearing rumors that Starbucks has done a complete overhaul of their pastries and that, my friends, makes me sad. I love cupcakes and cake pops (lies) as much as the next person, but who wants that with coffee? Hey Starbucks, quit trying to keep up with the trends and stick with things that go with coffee… like uhh, coffee cake. Anyway. This coffee cake is a lot like one of my favorite Starbucks pastries, the New York Style Coffee Cake.

Except I think Starbucks calls (called?) The cake is so soft thanks to the yogurt in the recipe. New York Style Coffee Cake adapted from Baked Explorations Ingredients For the crumb topping: 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar ½ cup granulated sugar ½ teaspoon salt 1½ tablespoons cinnamon 1 cup (2 sticks) melted butter 2½ cups all-purpose flour For the cake: ¾ teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 12 tablespoons (1½ sticks) butter 1½ cups granulated sugar 2 large eggs 1¼ cups plain (vanilla or honey flavor work too) Greek yogurt 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Cinnamon Toast Ice Cream. No Bake Key Lime Mini Pies. Today I have a key lime pie recipe. I absolutely love key lime pie! This one is a fun variation. It requires no baking. The recipe includes some of the usual ingredients found in a key lime pie like sweetened condensed milk and key lime juice.

However, instead of using eggs as the stabilizer it uses some cream cheese and gelatin. The cream cheese also give the pie a nice and creamy texture. No if you would rather, you could use a full sized graham cracker pie crust but I went for the minis. I am also a purest when it comes to my key lime pie, so i don’t add any food coloring to the pie base. If you want to save on calories or mom is watching her waistline, you can skip the crust. Here's the crustless version. No Bake Key Lime Mini Pies ** Note: you can forgo the crusts if you want to and just serve them in custard dishes. Recipe adapted from Baking Bites. Brazo De Mercedes (Take 2) I am a perfectionist.

I am a control freak. I just set my expectations too high for myself and get upset when I fall short of them, even when other people think I've done a good job (maybe they are just too kind) I still think I can do better. I guess I just have to learn to lower those expecations or keep working on reaching perfection. And keep remembering that practice makes perfect. This is my second attempt at the well loved Filipino dessert Brazo De Mercedes (Meringue Swiss Roll with Egg Yolk Custard filling). Brazo De Mercedes Ingredients: • 10 large eggs, seperated • Pinch of Cream of Tartar • 1/2 cup sugar • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (Nestle 395g) • 1 tsp vanilla bean extract • Icing sugar, to dust I decided I wanted to make two rolls, so had 20 eggs to seperate.

To make the custard, combine the egg yolks, condensed milk and vanilla bean extract in a saucepan. I don't recomment that you do this, but it did work for me. Thick, sticky custard. Unveiling one Brazo De Mercedes. Cinnamon Roll Recipe, Cinnamon Bun Recipes, Cinnamon Rolls. Posted by Grace Massa Langlois on Friday, 6th May 2011 It’s Sunday morning and there’s a scrumptious, mouth-watering aroma wafting throughout the house. You follow your nose to the kitchen to find light, tasty dough; deliciously gooey cinnamon-sugar filled Cinnamon Rolls covered with umptuous cream cheese frosting.

You enjoy these fresh, still warm out of the oven delights, in the comfort of your home. These aren’t just any Cinnamon Rolls, they’re Cinnabon-Style Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls. I ask you, “What could be better than this?” Have I enticed you enough to try this recipe? And best of all – they actually taste like a Cinnabon’s Classic Cinnamon Roll. Why do I refer to it as an “experience” rather than merely eating? We see the Cinnamon Roll from start to finish; preparing the dough, spreading the butter, sprinkling the cinnamon sugar, rolling and cutting, and baking.

I’m sure you’ve heard all the oohs and aaghs from the diners that are indulging in their freshly baked roll. A Beautiful Bouquet of Fried Won Ton Roses. “If I'd known this is what you eat at a bridal shower, I would have been attending them for years.” stated the father of the bride at a party that I co-hosted. The women all laughed and assured him that the food he was eating was not like anything they usually nibble on at wedding showers either.

We had really gone all out to create an amazing spread of food for the party and were thrilled to hear such compliments especially considering the near disaster that occurred in the kitchen (well in a kitchen, anyway.) The party was being held at my friend's house and we had spent the previous two days getting ready. The day of the event, our preparations were going great, all the cold food was on serving platters and much of the hot food was in chafing dishes. The day had been cloudy and windy but nothing out of the ordinary, but just as the guests started arriving the winds kicked into high gear. I arrived back at the party with beautifully baked pastries and no one was the wiser. Fryer. Cinnamon Rolls | thefauxmartha. If I tell you a secret, will you promise to keep reading? I don’t really like cinnamon rolls.

I can hear the gasps and the cars outside screeching to a halt. I know it’s a sin not to like these. But if I eat anything too sweet first thing in the morning, my blood sugar is off the rest of the day. I use the term muffin loosely literally. Please forgive me, but I hope you enjoy these more than I did. We finally made it to Key West from Miami after seeing two car wreaks and getting stuck behind a slow-moving RV for what seemed like forever. We are staying at a cute bed and breakfast called the Popular House that is located on a quiet, tree-shaded street in the heart of Key West’s “Old Town.”

The house was built in 1898 and is absolutely stunning. The hammock you see below is our own personal hammock during our stay. The bed and breakfast is in a perfect location-within walking distance to Duval Street, but far enough away for some peace and quiet. This morning we woke up to a full breakfast with tons of tropical fruit and freshly squeezed juices. Last night we ate at Santiago Bodega, a tapas style restaurant nestled among banana trees, hibiscus and palm trees. Now on to the whole reason why I came down to Key West-the key lime pie! Mmmmm…one of my favorite tropical desserts! Key Lime Pie Printer Friendly Version For the Lime Filling: For the Graham Cracker Crust: Directions: Leave a Comment. Lemons and Lavender: Cranberry, Pecan and Rosemary Chicken Salad. You know those moments when you do something you said you wouldn’t do? I’m having one of those moments right now. When I thought about starting up this blog, I contemplated the kinds of recipes I would feature.

I knew I would showcase some vintage family recipes, a few everyday favorites and some special occasion desserts. The one thing I really had trouble with was sandwiches. Should I or shouldn’t I? Admittedly, I’ve enjoyed many good sandwiches and I’ve got some tasty ones that I would love to share, but I wasn’t sure the world needed another person to extol the virtues of some kind of filling stuck between two pieces of bread. So, I let the idea of sandwiches go. But every time I made this chicken salad, I continued to question my decision. Cranberry, Pecan and Rosemary Chicken Salad Makes filling for 2 sandwiches (or 2 salads if served over a bed of lettuce) Heat some water in a sauce pan, tea kettle or in microwave. Squaw bread is my bread of choice for this sandwich. 30 Days 30 Ways with Macaroni & Cheese. Emeril's Turkey Meatloaf. Everyday Food (September 2010) Turkey meatloaf is one of our favorite make-ahead foods for lunch during the work week. Seriously, it's got it all: It's easy to make in large quantities; it costs next to nothing; it's portable; it's low-fat, low-carb and high-protein.

What else could you want? Well, flavor, for one thing. See, gang, we didn't love this particular turkey meatloaf. But there's a lot we'd change about this before making it again. There are two ingredients (other than meat) that we always think of as essential components of a meatloaf: eggs and breadcrumbs. Instead of eggs to help hold everything together, Emeril opts for evaporated milk. We don't have a problem with either one of those substitutions. But the result is a very dense, almost brownie-like meatloaf. We also didn't enjoy the green peppers here. Bottom line: This meatloaf isn't bad.

Oh, so what's our favorite turkey meatloaf recipe? Emeril's Turkey MeatloafEveryday Food (September 2010)Subscribe to Everyday Food 1. Blackbottom Marble Cheesecake. Cookies & Cream Fudge – Fake Ginger. December 18, 2010 in candy , holiday I am having the worst time coming up with Christmas goodies this year! I always want to make something that just screams CHRISTMAS but I just haven’t stumbled upon much inspiration. This is what I call Cheater’s Fudge. It’s so easy and turns out delicious every time. You just melt chocolate with some sweetened condensed milk and then fold in your choice of add-ins. I went with Oreo’s but any candy or cookie would work. It’s not going to have the same texture as regular candy thermometer fudge but it’s so easy that you won’t even care! Ingredients 18 ounces white baking chocolate 1 (14-ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk 3 cups Oreo cookies, chopped Instructions Line an 8 x 8 inch pan with parchment paper.

Sandwich + Chips « Rebel Without a Sauce. This isn’t so much a “recipe” post as it is an extended “Look What I Had For Lunch!” Post. I made sandwich and I made chips. But I promise it gets much more interesting from here on! You’ll want to start with a kickass spread because sometimes plain old mayonnaise just doesn’t cut it. I tried out this easy recipe from Tasty Kitchen. ¾ cup Mayonnaise 1 tbsp Wasabi Paste 1 tbsp Soy Sauce 1 tbsp Honey (heaping) Whisk all your ingredients together and you’re done! Making chips is basically thinly slicing potatoes and then frying them. Yeah… let my pain be a cautionary tale (p.s. Moving on, you’ll want to make sure the potato slices are dry before you fry them up with very hot oil. I’m sorry but I don’t know what temperature the oil should be.

Mushrooms! I cut thick slices of 2 baby portobello mushrooms and grilled them with very little oil and some generic dried italian seasoning blend. And then the assembly of this awesome sandwich begins! … followed by the grilled mushrooms… Is anything? Homemade corn dogs. Hello. My name is Emily. And I have a fear of deep frying. Although certainly I have concerns about how unhealthy deep frying is (we hardly eat fried food even when we eat out), I’ll admit the bigger fear in the once-a-year event that I MIGHT deep fry something is the splattering. Oil burns hurt. Then, there’s the concern (even with a thermometer) that the oil is too hot, not hot enough… going to burn down my house…you know…the usual concerns. So, when Michael requested homemade corn dogs as one of his monthly picks for dinner, I’ll admit I was intimidated.

You might be surprised to learn, then, that it really wasn’t a bad experience. To be fair, poor Michael has wanted to try homemade corn dogs since a few months into being married, when we watched Alton Brown make some on Good Eats. Still, after having a freshly-made corn dog at Disneyland this summer, I can see why he might want to try one at home. The crispy outside and tender inside of the breading was delicious.

Homemade Corn Dogs. Alton Brown’s “Overnight Cinnamon Rolls” « The Culinary Chronicles. <Sigh>…….I had high hopes for these. My boy, Alton Brown, rarely leads me astray. But after a 14-hour process that included triple proofing of the dough, these rolls just fell short. In truth, I’m not sure what went wrong. The reviews of the recipe were raving and I even watched the video. I followed every detail to the tee (something you definitely need to do when making Alton’s recipes) and used newly purchased yeast. Will I try it again? Sorry Alton….you’re still my Boo though. :) Overnight Cinnamon Rolls From Alton Brown Ingredients: Dough 4 Large Egg Yolks, room temperature 1 Large Whole Egg, room temperature 2 Ounces Sugar, approximately ¼ cup 3 Ounces Unsalted Butter, melted, approximately 6 tablespoons 6 Ounces Buttermilk, room temperature 20 Ounces All-Purpose Flour, approximately 4 cups, plus additional for dusting 1 Package Instant Dry Yeast, approximately 2¼ teaspoons 1¼ Teaspoons Kosher Salt Vegetable oil or Cooking Spray Butter a 9 by 13-inch glass baking dish.
