Avocado and Walnut Bread. It's not the first time I eat something in a restaurant and instantly think "how can I recreate this at home? ". In fact, this happens to me most of the time if I'm having something that is really nice, but at least seemingly easy to make at home. I had one of these moments after having the Burnt Orange Cafe's walnut bread with avocado, and I couldn't wait to try making my version of it. In Finland I used to bake my own bread all the time. Somehow the flour there was easier (for me) to work with, there was more flour varieties available, and I always had fresh yeast to use for making bread rolls or other bread at home. After moving to Australia I not only mostly stopped eating bread (because I couldn't quite find rye bread I was happy with), but I also stopped baking it. This avocado and walnut bread will definitely become a new favourite of mine.

Banana Bread. I often wonder how many recipes there are for banana bread. From the mixing methods to the variations of ingredients, there seem to be thousands. I make my share of these variations, but today I am sharing the recipe for my standard, plain ol' banana bread. My idea of a good banana bread is one with a tender cake, but not so moist that it is gummy. So, with the goal of straddling this fine line, I use butter and bit of sour cream or yogurt. I aim for a nice dome with a crunchy, sugary top.

To this end, I sprinkle the top of the unbaked bread with Demerara sugar. Rolled Biscuits with Herbs and Parmesan. April 8, 2011 | Breads, Popular You know the saying, when life gives you lemons, well, when spring gives you herbs, it’s time to shake off the winter chill and do something fresh with them.

I’ve been wanting to make traditional rolled biscuits for some time, and the sight of my herbs pushing up through the garden like this inspired me. I also recently splurged on a new mixer, convincing myself that my budding chef daughter needed my old mixer and that justified the splurge on a new one for me.

And I was itching to try it out. While some people make doughs in a food processor, I’m confident in my mixer technique so stick with that. You can make these biscuits from start to hot out of the oven in about 30 minutes, so they are perfect for a weeknight dinner. The process is similar to making my flaky tart crust dough, but you want to mix the herbs and cheese into the flour before you begin mixing in the butter. …before rolling it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.

Herbed Biscuits with Parmesan. Pumpkin Bread | TheshoeboxKitchen. In case we haven’t mentioned it already, we just LOVE pumpkin here in the shoebox. Chances are, if it contains pumpkin in the ingredients list, we’re going to like it – a lot. It’s like salt and pepper, pumpkin is. Okay, so maybe we’re exaggerating . . . just a bit. But who doesn’t love Fall? I had the good fortune a few weeks back to meet Sally Sampson, a woman I've admired for some time. Sally has worked for years as a cookbook writer, and as such, brought a number of my favorite cookbooks to market. Some of my most worn volumes were written by Sally, including Todd English's The Olives Table , The Olives Dessert Table , and the first book of his I ever owned, The Figs Table . Sally is also the author of my most used cookbook (if its physical disrepair is any indication), the terrific Party Nuts!

, from which we've pulled many recipes for the nut mixes we give friends and family in our annual holiday gift baskets. A couple of years ago, and after having written 20+ cookbooks, Sally switched gears and founded ChopChop Magazine, a quarterly publication dedicated to educating kids about cooking and nutrition, and encouraging these kids and their parents to get in the kitchen and cook together......Halleluja! So how are things going so far at ChopChop? Cheers - Steve Recipe: Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread.
