The Five Levels Of Street Photography | Out For A Walk – Street Photography Blog. Searching for a better editing process Editing is the hardest part of street photography. It is harder than being confronted by strangers or getting lost in the bad part of town or trying to focus manually with the Fuji X100. Just to clarify, for the purposes of this post, when I say editing I am referring to the process of selecting the images that “make the cut” and discarding the ones that don’t. My decision process when looking at one of my images usually goes something like this: “wow, this one is fantastic! …..maybe not…..well, it could be……ah.. whatever, I’m keeping it….. At the risk of discombobulating such a scientific and rigorous process I started to think if there could be a better way to more easily select images that have higher impact and meaning and that will make me feel a little better about my photographs. Just like Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, fulfilling the needs at the top has a more lasting effect and is a more powerful motivator.

Street Gang - What makes a good photograph? By Felix Lupa Am I entitled to express my opinion? A remarkable photograph must be a personal, visual report of the subject. It has to be able to tell me, using the photographer personal and unique visual language what the photographer saw and what he felt. For a good photograph it is not enough to just be a visual report, it also has to be a psychological report. We live in an era of photographic boredom and the photographer has to fight it and prevail. When I say that a good photograph has to have the element of surprise and shock, it doesn't necessarily means that it has to be provocative or vulgar. The element of surprise may be achieved in many ways. The best way to achieve the element of surprise is by avoiding mimicking others. To some extent, all beginners mimic other photographers when they pick up their new hobby, but they must know when to stop mimicking and start their journey to discover their own personal photographic language.
