Paris is a renowned capital of art offering a feast for the art lover’s eyes. From Impressionist masterpieces in the Musée d’Orsay to the large holdings at the legendary Louvre, there are nearly endless treasures to discover. The majors and minors in Art History and Fine Arts at The American University of Paris draw heavily on the extraordinary number of museums and major monuments in Paris—and in Europe as a whole. The ease of access to these rich collections allows students to develop an immediate and intimate understanding of great works of Western Art—works which have been created over thousands of years.

The department also complements its strong core of courses with offerings in non-Western Art, abundantly present in Parisian and other museums, as well. Study trips are integral to the art history experience In addition to classroom sessions and museum visits, many courses have study trips. Research areas and skills Get in touch. The American University of Paris | LOUVRE: Les Jeunes ont la parole (JOP) Les Jeunes ont la parole (JOP) is a one-credit course option that offers Art History students (and highly motivated schoolmates from other disciplines) at The American University of Paris the rare opportunity of participating in a hands-on program organized by the Louvre Museum. On a series of designated Friday evenings, AUP students take their station in the museum’s venerable spaces alongside peers from a series of highly diverse Paris-region institutions: the École du Louvre, the Universities of Paris-I, Paris-IV and Paris-XI, the National Conservatory of Music, the Institut Catholique, the ICART, and tourism-oriented students from the Lycée Évariste Galois.

What is JOP’s goal? To enter into dialogue with museum visitors around a work of art. The Louvre has young visitors in its sights: the museum is free to anyone under 26 years of age on Friday evenings, and the program was originally conceived to draw youth into what are all too often perceived as discouragingly daunting walls.
