I have seen several mentions of Twitter in blogposts, but kind of assumed it was something along the lines of Explode , which I have already joined and occasionally use (although more often than the stats on my blog-widget would indicate!) so I didn't pay it much attention. Then Vicki Davis prodded me to join, and since I have a great deal of respect for her, I thought I'd look into it. I duly joined, and entered 5 updates. But I can't see what else a person is supposed to do there.

Twitter: I don't get it

http://chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/mentoring-graduate-students-through-social-media-or-how-i-made-it-through-the-last-5-years/22731 After Amy recently wrote about how social media led her to Prof. Hacker, I was reminded that social media led me to graduate school in the first place. Without a doubt, I would not have started graduate school—nor would I be finishing, I don’t think—without social networking. In this post I will talk about what social networking has meant to me, from the perspective of a graduate student. The title of this post is “Mentoring Graduate Students Through Social Media” not because it’s a how-to for faculty, but because for me social media has been my default method of receiving mentoring. If you’re reading this as a faculty member and you have a presence online, please recognize that you are probably mentoring students without even knowing it.

Microblogging « My Integrating Technology journey

Wikipedia explains that Micro-blogging is a form of blogging that allows users to write brief text updates (usually less than 200 characters ) and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging , instant messaging , email , MP3 or the web . You need time to blog but having to write something in only 200 characters is wonderful if you lack time. http://jenverschoor.wordpress.com/2008/02/06/microblogging/
After much rumination, I've finally decided to join the Twitter craze currently taking place on the blogosphere. Twitter is a service which allows you to tell the world the minutiae of your day through a widget on a blog or website. For my Twitter badge , I am going to record the types of ICT/MFL ideas I've been looking at for that day or who I've been in contact with if I feel it may be newsworthy. Here's what I've twittered about so far: http://joedale.typepad.com/integrating_ict_into_the_/2007/05/twit_or_twitter.html

Like I Need an Excuse be Twittering- now to climb the Tweeterboard » CogDogBlog

http://cogdogblog.com/2007/12/10/tweeterboard/ Of course I find the coolest of new stuff in my twitter stream, like f rom Dean Shareski just know came a link to Tweeterboard- a site that provides analytics on tweeters, their activity, what they are linking to, etc. Tweeterboard is a way of looking at who is influential on Twitter based on their conversations with other Twitter users. There are other services, like Twitterposter, that base influence on how many followers you have. Tweeterboard looks at who talks to you. Tweeterboard also captures links posted to Twitter to generate a list of the most popular links. Reputation points are the way influence is measured in Tweeterboard.
